My first visit to Wiigi kohvik was on a Saturday evening. The cafe interior was very cosy. Service was friendly and relatively quick so I had my hopes up immediately about what's to follow. I ordered quail for the appetizer- it was okay as the first bite revealed a smoky flavour but the dish was heavily sprinkled with pomegranate seeds that failed to elevate the dish and instead started dragging it down with every following bite. As a main I ordered the most expensive dish in the menu- lamb chump with a side of peas. When the dish was delivered I found out that they it was actually a stew. Aside from the plating which was lovely for all courses, that's where the praise stops unfortunately. They didn't do the dish justice by overspicing the bean stew to an extent that you actually couldn't taste anything else (the spiciness wasn't marked in the menu). But when I tasted the lamb, the horrible truth was revealed to me- they served me mutton instead! So perhaps the overseasoning was intentional to throw people off the scent and keep serving a substandard quality meat as the star of the menu. The server actually said that people really like "the strong distinctive taste of lamb" that they have. Well I got news for your lady, this is the textbook difference between mutton/lamb, No-one who actually knows what they're talking about has ever been pleasantly surprised about getting a dish made out of mutton not lamb.
I've seen all the good reviews out there and I'm definitely open to the fact that this is a temporary hick-up as they did mention that they just introduced the dish and they're open to feedback. However a fact is a fact and the majority of our table wasn't that pleased with their food experience. 2 star out of 5 for the interior...
Read moreThis place turned out to be very overrated, and our experience here was not pleasant. The service was extremely slow, even though there were enough waiters. We had to ask three times just to get water! The food also took a very long time to arrive and when it finally did, it only made things worse. We ordered the beef tartare and the salmon tartare — both were ok, nothing special. The goat cheese salad, however, was a complete disaster: they just threw in everything possible and the flavor combinations were terrible. For the main dishes we once again had to wait far too long. We ordered mushroom and truffle risotto, which had a strange aftertaste, was bland and not even the truffle could save it. The mussels themselves were tasty, but the dish was way too spicy, the sauce was the only really enjoyable part. The seafood pasta was supposed to come with octopus, shrimp, squid and mussels as stated in the menu, but it only had the last two. At least the pasta itself was decent and probably the only dish that was actually good. As for drinks, we tried the passionfruit lemonade and at least that was prepared well. Overall, our impression of this restaurant was terrible — slow service, poor-quality food and the only positive thing was the atmosphere. But atmosphere alone can’t make up for everything else, so I definitely cannot...
Read moreWe recently chose Wiigi Kohvik for a group gathering of 18 people and unfortunately, our experience was underwhelming. The management seemed poorly prepared to handle our group's needs, which was evident in several ways. Firstly, the communication was poor throughout our planning process. Just two days before the event, they sent us an unexpectedly high invoice. When we questioned the prices, they reduced it by €300, admitting they couldn't justify the original figures. Moreover, every portion we ordered from the regular menu was priced higher than listed, which was puzzling and disappointing.
The management's overall demeanor came off as quite standoffish. Adding to our discomfort, the room was excessively hot with inadequate ventilation for large group.
On a positive note, the waitresses were friendly and polite, and the food was generally tasty, although the inclusion of berries in the salad was not to my liking – but that’s a personal preference.
In conclusion, while Wiigi Kohvik might suffice for a quick cafe stop, it certainly fell short of expectations for handling anything beyond that. It's clear why they are just a "Kohvik" and not a restaurant. We were hoping for a better experience but left...
