This is a cozy Italian restaurant around the Adwa Victory memorial in Piassa. Quite a glorious sight driving in when we went as the fountain was on and there were crowds, which makes the place even more memorable and worth getting to.
We went there twice and there are a few highlights; the ambience is definitely that of an Italian restauarant, basic but quite aligned on how an Italian place should look like. First day we were walk-ins, but second day we had reservations. The foyer has photos of all VIPs who have patronized the restaurant, and there are plenty including Thabo Mbeki and Brad Pitt.🤗🤗
Food; I enjoyed the beef fillet steak with cream and mushrooms and the fettucinne pasta with truffle sauce, my partner also really enjoyed his fish. The salad was the worst ever and the french fries also horrid and we did not try dessert So stick to the Italian cuisine I guess. Not much Italian wine stock which is disappointing, but it is what it is.
Service: fairly acceptable, but we had small issues like glass not being soo clean, and having to wipe, food handling as well might need some improvement. Service charge not included and the waiters remind you without fail.
Yes, I would still go back again...
Read moreWhat a tremendously disappointing experience. This review isn't of the food, because unfortunately I didn't make it that far. The owner of the restaurant was impossibly rude, first telling me they were full for another hour and a half (which was fine), then refusing me: a) the ability to look at the menu b) asking any questions about the food, telling me that I could do that once I've been seated and c) from putting my name down for a reservation.
What was perhaps the most disappointing aspect of it all was that I was incredibly keen on trying the place out, but instead was met by a massively rude owner who can neither communicate effectively nor show respect to his customers. While this experience doesn't reduce my desire to someday try the food from this establishment, I genuinely feel that it's rating must reflect the potential of being severely off-put by the service and first impression given upon entering.
In my own opinion, I don't believe that a business run by such a personality should be supported, but should you choose to do so, expect to meet perhaps the most unsavoury human being...
Read moreWhat a disappoint Castelli’s has become. After eating in this restaurant for the past 34 years - last night was unrecognisable. With terrible service, mutton served as lamb, which my knife couldn’t cut into, uncooked fished services which we had to send back to the kitchen and to top it off, the smell of burned food from the kitchen directly into the restaurant - perhaps it is time to move on by the owners as the glory days of once a Ethiopia eating institution is not catching up with the demand and service expected of the price of the menu.
I am sorry to give such bad review but the owners and management need to take a serous look at their business as there are so many amazing Italian restaurants in Addis Ababa in competition.
For us, this might be...
