Dropped into hotel for a meeting with a friend and ended up stopping for dinner. A very Japanese focused menu, so we opted for the Pork Ramen and Pork Udon, our personal favourites, and couple of Asahi Pacific Blue beer. Order took about 25-30 minutes, but we were chatting amongst ourselves, and it all came out one by one about 5 minutes apart. But these were probably the best ramen and udon we have had outside of Japan. Broth had a deep flavour and the pork was abundant and well cooked through. The Udon was bouncy as required, and ramen was firm not soft, just like we like it. Highly recomended for ramen or udon in Kolonia, Ponhpei.

They’re known for their sashimi alas no tuna was available when we visited. Service was prompt, and the restaurant’s bustling. Steak was so-so, but the pork broth ramen was decent (essentially it tastes like they use the canned pig trotters for the meat + broth) with actual noodles (unlike a few other places in Pohnpei where they serve you instant noodles when you order a ramen). Oyakodon serving was generous but waaaaay too dry (egg and chicken were both overcooked) and not enough seasoning given the large amount of rice.

Came for a long weekend dive trip with Pohnpei Surf Club. This hotel is conveniently located in town and a 5 minute walk from a grocery store. The hotel met us at the airport with a sign, airport transfer included with stay. We never told them any flight information, but they promptly met us at the airport, probably because the flights are quite limited and it was easy to guess when we'd arrive. The rooms are a good size with two beds, they're bigger than a twin, not sure if they're queen. The decor is dated, but I thought it was cute and reflective of a different time period. Rooms also have a refrigerator, TV, safe box, and good aircon. The rooms have telephones to make free local calls. The internet is good for island speeds. The shower tub has a clothes line for hanging up wet bathing suits. The balcony also has another hanging thing for wetsuits, etc. ||||On the 2nd floor is a free water dispenser for hot and cold water and a microwave. There's also free bananas, a very cute island gesture. The restaurant downstairs is yummy and very convenient, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.||||Overall, a very comfortable and clean stay. I would definitely return to stay here again. There isn't an ocean view, but it's a very convenient place to stay with friendly service. One more note, there's no elevators in case there's...

I have been coming to Pohnpei for many years and though I have tried several hotels, only the Joy Hotel so closely fits my needs. It is in the town close to stores and offices, the WiFi is great, there are many electrical outlets, a nice desk for my laptop and a chair to go with it, a clock that shows that time at night without bright lights, plenty of lighting in the room and bath, an A/C that works fine and is improved by the use of a ceiling fan. There is a comfortable bed, a great shower whose faucet I can figure out without an instruction manual, plenty of hot water, free bananas on a stand as you go p the stairs, a microwave in the hall along with a water cooler, really nice staff and a decent restaurant and a middle of the road price. My dream hotel. If there is a negative side, it is that I always seem to end up on the third floor and there is no elevator. The hotel caters a lot to Japanese, as evidenced by the restaurant menu being in both Japanese and English and the book shelves in the second floor hall all being in Japanese. No problem, plenty of western food on the menu and I like Japanese food too. In short I love the place and as long as they have a room for me when I arrive, this will be my choice. Highly...
