Krung Thep Thai Bistro in Kalasatama promises a trip to Bangkok without the flight ticket — though I’d say it’s more of a layover than a full immersion.

We went all in with a 5-course spread: Chicken Satay, Som Tum (papaya salad), Green Curry Duck, Deep-Fried Fish Fillet with Eggplant, Stir-Fried Vegetables, and a round of Thai Iced Milk Tea to cool it all down. Verdict at our table of three? The Green Curry Duck easily stole the show — rich, aromatic, and actually whispering “authentic.” The Thai Iced Tea was a close second, sweet and refreshing. The rest? Respectable, but let’s just say they packed more “Nordic politeness” than “Bangkok punch.” Good, yes. But if you’re a Thai food purist (guilty as charged), Aa Han Thai in Töölö still reigns supreme for home-style depth, while Raan Khao Gaeng in Kamppi has the street-food soul nailed down.

Service-wise, full marks to the lone waitress who juggled a packed dining room with a smile — even if our dishes took the scenic route from kitchen to table. Patience pays when the company’s good.

Ambiance is a win: clean layout, bright and airy, with the rare gift of leaving without smelling like you’ve been stir-fried yourself.

The bill came to €90 for three, which is fair value for Helsinki dining.

Final word? If you’re in Kalasatama and craving Thai, Krung Thep is a solid stop. But if you’re chasing the true kick of lime leaves, fish sauce, and chili, you may want to venture a...

Their curries are really superb, most probably some of the best you can find in Finland! However, Pad Thai was a slight disappointment and you can find better prepared noodle dishes elsewhere. So go for the curry!

Also, we ordered a half portion for the child - as they promote this option both online as on their table menu - and made sure the waitress understood us correctly. However, when paying the bill she completely refused to give any discount and claimed that there is no such an option for children. So eventually we had to pay full price (more than 20 euros) for a portion, which was more than two times too big. We felt unfair about this as she should had said this already...

We visited for the first time and the only thing more amazing than the food itself was the customer service offered by the waitress Linda! She was absolutely amazing and the management should please take note of this! She treated us with such kindness which made the entire experience outstanding! I informed her that it was my wives birthday when I made the reservation and at the end of our dinner she brought out some desert with a candle on the house! We were all so touched by the gesture!
