I’ve just left this bistro deflated and slightly upset with the attitude towards being a vegetarian. The food for meat eaters however looked very good and presented nicely. My husband had a steak, which wasn’t cooked as he asked, but after feeling like a pain for being a non meat eater, he didn’t want to draw any more attention to our table. I was told that I should of called before hand to tell them I am a vegetarian so something could of been made for me. Seeing as this is not something I’ve ever felt the need to do, or ever been told I should of done, I had to just get on with what was on the menu.(which was basically a salad) They did however suggest a few changes I could make and they tried to accommodate my needs. I started to feel like I had a rare allergy or that I was just a Martian from outer space! After may I add being told ‘that this this a hunting area’ and then being shown the stuffed deers head hanging by my table! Such an insensitive comment to make to a vegetarian. My starter was lovely, a nice salad and well presented. My main, which I wasn’t happy to chose was not to my liking at all! I went for fish, something I tend to only eat because I have no real choice. Again, I didn’t want to keep speaking to the waiter about my food as I was now wanting the ground to swallow me up! With the price tag as high as it was, and also being connected to the 3 star Michelin sister restaurant and hotel, I was expecting some care to be taken with basic table service. I have to say eating a €35 steak with the same cutlery used for my husbands starter was a little shocking. When our first course was taken, the knife and fork was clumsily placed in front of us, with sauce dripping off them onto the serviette. I’ve never eaten anywhere with such a high rating, high quality of produce with a price tag to follow and not had clean cutlery presented for the next course and the table wiped of any debris too. When we asked for fresh cutlery, it was like we had really offended them. I wasn’t expecting silver service, just would of been nice to have had the basics covered. I wish now we had simply left when we realised my ‘dietary requirements’ were going to be so frowned upon. Such a shame, €100 down and made to feel pretty rubbish, wasn’t what I was hoping for when I came to eat here! Shame that in 2019, I felt like I was back in 1995 when I first stopped eating meat! I really thought things had progressed since then!
Only two weeks ago I was in the south west of France at La Ferme Aux Grives in Eugiene les bains. This is Michel Guerard sister restaurant to his 2 Michelin hotel and restaurant, and I was made to feel so welcome and food instantly changed and adapted for me without any funny comments, and was so full and happy when I left, I also had 4 courses, and teas and coffees for the same price as 2 courses and no alcohol at simple and miellur! Seems other big restaurants in ‘hunting’ regions with famous names attached embrace the changes in life and make us veggie’s feel ‘normal’ entering their...
Read moreA reservation for 16 is never easy. We were told we were too loud, but had we had food in the first hour rather than just beer, we may have been quieter.
Extremely slow service. 19h45 reservation. 21h00 and fondue just arriving. Luckily, we were told to order fondue if we wanted our meal more quickly! Imagine had we ordered the menu or anything but melted cheese. We also included 4 soups and a burger, which may have slowed things down.
The food was fine, not exceptional as the prices would suggest. The wine list is good. Prepare to ransom a child for the most basic Cote du Rhône. And before you write me off as a "brit", je suis française avec ma...
