O Piment Rouge — Restaurant in Argelès-Gazost

We spent a week in Lourdes recently and very much enjoyed a dinner at O Piment Rouge. This is a Basque style restaurant situated along Rue de la Grotte. The interior is nicely decorated, there is a fair amount of seating and table spacing is good. I'd recommend making reservations as they were full up on the evening that we dined there.

On the occasion, we ordered the Duck Confit (leg) as well as the Duck Breast both served with fries. The confit had crispy skin, succulent and flavourful meat. The duck breast was beautifully grilled at medium-rare with a delightful reddish pink centre. It tasted excellent. Both dishes were worth returning to reorder. House wine and Basque style custard cake served on the evening were worth returning for as well.

Had high hopes given the reviews so went by that. Unfortunately the menu was a little too boring and restrictive. And my mum who is a chef ordered the entrecote grill (rib eye steak) well done but it came very burnt. My mum is a chef of 30 years knows when something is burnt or well done. They tried to justify that is how well done is and didn't apologise or even acknowledge how she was unable to eat it. Excellent lunch. We had the 19€ 3 course meal. We ordered vegetable soup for our first course which was very hearty and included large veggie pieces and meat (note to vegetarians). For our main dish we had Squid in a garlic chili (not hot or spicy) sauce with chorizo rice that was very flavorful. For dessert I chose the cheese which arrived with bread and Berry jam.
