L’Atelier Terre & Mer — Restaurant in Avignon

We (mum, sister, and me) were in town for just a day and had a very large choice of restaurants to get lunch. We picked this place and, to be honest, it wasn't the experience we were hoping for. We picked out our own table as there were no staff around to guide us. Eventually someone came and took our order. Mum and I ordered the pork 'special', and my sister opted for a salad. The dishes arrived questionably quickly, and disappointingly, the pork dishes were just luke warm. Neither of us could be bothered in returning them, so we ate them anyway. The pork was actually really nice, as was the sauce - it was a very small meal for the price paid, though. The accompanying bread rolls were rock hard. My sister was really disappointed with her €19 salad, which was a poor effort. Absolutely no care was shown in putting this salad together. It was just chopped lettuce, (whole!) tomatoes and dry, breaded fish put in a bowl with sauce drizzled on top. We wanted the desserts that made up the lunchtime offer, but trying to get the attention of the wait staff was unacceptably difficult. A number of the team were congregated by the door of the restaurant and were not looking after diners at the tables outside. Eventually, we got the attention of someone by waving and gesticulating. The desserts were lovely. This was the last meal out of our holiday, and it was a bit of a letdown to be frank. I have to put this all down to us arriving as the lunchtime service was...

At first, the staff was polite when seating us and taking our order. Unfortunately, the food arrived completely cold. When we pointed it out, the waitress showed little concern and simply suggested we choose something else. Shockingly, they brought back the same dish just as cold as before. When we objected, the staff became hostile and reluctantly replaced it with another entrée—which was hardly any better.

To make matters worse, when the bill arrived, we were charged for both the original cold trout and the replacement entrée, even though we were told we could choose another dish. The staff argued with us for over 20 minutes about the charges, behaving rudely and aggressively throughout.

The food is poor, overpriced, and the service unprofessional. I strongly recommend avoiding...

Really decent sushi - a great choice for the area. This restaurant is connected to the “Atelier Sushi Bar” next door and you can get their menu here too, including chirashi and don bowls. On a global standard the sushi is above average but not exceptional. The double cheeseburgers are good too - very generously sized, and doneness is accurate to your order. Fries are nice - not too oily, done quite right! Free water and ok service. There was a weird issue with the music, it was skipping or flickering in and out (maybe weird acoustics on the second floor). The restaurant is open late relative to other options in the area. Overall, a good choice in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
