Disappointing Experience

The service was good, and the staff was kind, but unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations.

We were a large group and ordered a variety of dishes, including fish & chips, pièce de bœuf, escalope de veau, poisson du jour, and sole, among others. Sadly, none of them stood out in a positive way. The meat was tough to cut and chew, and the flavor was underwhelming.

The side dishes were also disappointing. The “ratatouille” lacked flavor, was overly acidic, and simply unappetizing. The sauces (poivre and Camembert) for the meat lacked depth and had an odd texture.

Desserts were especially disappointing, as we were hoping they would redeem the experience. The Tarte Normande and crème brûlée lacked flavor, were served cold, and didn’t seem fresh. The most disappointing dish was the Pudding aux pommes—it had an odd texture and flavor, seemed like it wasn’t freshly prepared, and the taste of apple was completely missing.

On a positive note, the coffee was good, and the accompanying Biscoff cookies helped improve the overall experience slightly.

Unfortunately our stay coincided with the Friday closure of the restaurant / bar so arrival was by arrangement. Despite being 1 1/4 hrs late, the message from Patrice was of concern for our welfare, not annoyance! The hotel and restaurant are very clean and the room of reasonable size (had smaller in 3* plus!). Added benefit is that Patrice speaks very good english. and is a very welcoming host. There is ample free parking nearbye. We enjoyed a normal french continental breakfast - ample for our needs. The town is very well presented with many floral displays, a spacious square and an interesting park with lakes and children’s play areas. Everywhere is very clean - puts the Brits to shame! Would definitely recommend and would stay...

We arrived on Thursday almost.10pm and they gently served us moules with fries, bread and butter. Perfect! Amazing fries, generous portion of a good seasoned moules, fresh French Baggett and butter.
