After a long time, I decided to finally share my experience, because I will never allow myself to tolerate such rudeness again. My partner had booked a table — we had a big occasion to celebrate. We were both very excited to visit what was supposed to be one of the best restaurants in town.
Unfortunately, from the moment we stepped through the door, it didn’t feel welcoming. The interior was dull and uninviting — though that’s subjective — but the attitude of the staff was simply unacceptable. I don’t know if you have an issue with international guests, but when I politely asked if the menu was available in English, the “waiter” replied that “we are in France, and here we speak French.” Such an attitude is shocking in a restaurant that should pride itself on hospitality — at the very least, we expected basic courtesy, regardless of the language we spoke.
The whole atmosphere felt cold and unprofessional, and for a place that claims to be among the city’s best, it was a complete disappointment. This was my first — and by far the worst — dining experience in this region. The food was underwhelming, overpriced, the dessert was awful, and the service was...
Read moreHad a lovely romantic dinner here, and we were lucky enough to get a table on the quiet and private terrace at the back. We went for the rather fabulous five course Apicius menu (75 EUR), which was a lot of food but featured so many of our top picks for the A La Carte menu.
We started with scallops serves with lardons, sweet potato and truffle oil - divine! Then there was a rather impressive sweet tomato lasagna with lobster (with the claw clambering out of the bowl!). That was followed by the most delicious roasted lamb with fresh mushrooms and this parmesan crisp, which really brought out the sweetness of the lamb. We rounded things off with a most impressive cheeseboard, which meant we had to sample some more local Cancoillote and Comte. I have to say at that point I sort of gave up, unusual for me with my sweet tooth, but I was so full I couldn't face dessert!
Lovely service, friendly place and a little more upmarket than the average place in Besancon. Definitely...
