A cozy gem tucked away from the tourist crowds. The restaurant is small and popular, so reservations are highly recommended. Casual attire is fine. Note that the restaurant only has one window, so it can feel hot and stuffy on a warm evening. We were able to adjust after a while, but a fan would be a nice addition.
The wine selection was excellent, with a variety of non-trivial wines available by the glass. The food was good and cooked with care. The signature dish, a beef rib steak for two, was large enough to feed four of us (one man and three women). However, the steak was too fatty and raw even after we asked for it to be cooked more. I did appreciate that the steak came with bone marrow.
Overall, we had a good meal at this restaurant. The food was good, the wine selection was excellent, and the service was attentive. However, I would recommend making a reservation in advance and be aware that the restaurant can feel...
Read moreThis was, hands down, the absolute best dining experience in Bordeaux - and one of the best we’ve had in the world. The service is perfect, everyone is so warm and inviting. The wine selections are curated, and their recommendations were thoughtful. Clearly, they are very busy as they should be, yet they treat your table like you’re the only one there. The food is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We had a veal shank with bone marrow in the cut that we scooped out and smeared on fresh baguette…really, life doesn’t get much better, does it?
This is a hidden gem in Bordeaux. That’s saying a lot because there are so many delicious options in this fantastic city. Goupil was so good, we came back for an expedited lunch before our train out of the city because we just couldn’t stop talking about it. And 23 euro pre-fixe for lunch? I mean, c’mon. Can’t beat it.
And the staff - they just make you want to smile.
HIGHLY recommend. In...
Read moreSheltered from the bustling city is a phenomenal restaurant, outstanding in every aspect save for its unassuming façade.
We were immediately greeted by a cheerful and welcoming waitress and provided with complementary water and bread. The cozy atmosphere and tasteful ambiance allowed us to unwind and relax.
The food is truly the best we've had in France. In particular, the steak is of utmost quality (and incredible quantity!), all for a very reasonable price (€80 for one kilogram), not to mention the excellent baked potatoes on the side. The wine more than meets the lofty expectations of Bordeaux. In addition, the banana pie dessert deserves equal praise; I cannot articulate what exactly made it amazing, but it was the perfect way to finish this perfect meal.
Overall, I'd say that no trip to Bordeaux is complete without a visit to...
