Upon entering the restaurant around 16h50 today, on August 19, we sat at the front tables.
A short grey hair, lanky, middle aged waiter rudely told us that these werent the tables to order food from and he impatiently told us to move on the back table (with a ton like 'you shud have known dummies'). I wanted to tell him 'this job dont do you no good, you shud quit instead of taking it on the customers'. But I refrained. Hopefully he will read this.
I know it is an ungrateful job and not well paid. But it is so because people keep accepting to work in these conditions. I have done this job for 7years, I know very well about it.
Its entirely his fault if theres only 4stars lol.
The waiters who attended us afterwards were absolutely lovely (2 young people, curly hair woman and a blond guy with tattoos). They were smiling, polite and agreeable. If it wasnt for them I wud have rated 3stars lol.
I had egg mayo and oisters with non alcoholic piña colada. Eggs and mayo were a bit dry on the top (surely cause they are made in advance and stored in the fridge) but the mayo was homemade and delicious, oisters were fresh and equally good. Drink was good but the ton of ice makes it very expensive for 5 euros.
Also, wth is 'bouillon' ?? I dont like the new name. I much preferred the original name 'the rising sun', much...
Read moreThey sat us at a two person table with only the wall bench and no chair on the other side, so sitting side by side on the bench we took up part of the table next to us. Then we waited for 20 minutes as the waiters helped everyone around us, and none of them even glanced at us. The place was not busy. Finally, after 20 minutes, I get up to leave, and one of the waiters shoots my friend a look, and she hastily asks for two teas. So now we’ve ordered. Finally. A few minutes later the waiter comes over with two teas, but only one teapot (a 1 person tea pot). So we have to share the water. Then he asks us to move over and not take up the table next to us. So now we’re squished into a 1 person spot. And then he leaves us the bill for two teas. I’ve been in France for 4 months now and not once have I been given a bill before I was finished and asked for it. This is hands-down the worst service I’ve ever seen, and worst of all, no other customers seemed to have this problem - just us. I’m so mad that I have to...
Read moreFood, service and atmosphere all excellent. Such a shame so many people have had a bad experience. We were greeted and seated with smiles. Offered indoor or outdoor. We had booked indoor because of the heat wave, but no fuss to seat outdoors, as the day was cooling. Had great seats watching the comings and goings of the rail users. Service was brisk, with cold, fizzy lagers delivered almost immediately. (Why is French lager so refreshing, when English lager taste like dishwater?) One item mixup with starters rectified without complaint. Delicious carafe of red (actually 75cl bottle of lovely Bordeaux), empty carafe d'eau replaced quickly. Main guy checked up on us without being overbearing. Rest of staff picked up empties as they passed (I've been in posher places where they don't manage the basics like that). My steak was ok, frites fantastic. Strawberry Melba perfect desert. The price was the icing on the cake. Went...
