Le Gars de Falaise — Restaurant in Caen

A little scared to post a review after seeing the unpleasant replies from the restaurant staff to other customers who have left reviews, but the woman at this place should try to have some basic respect for her customers. We had a horrible experience here today, in which my family and entered the completely empty restaurant outdoor seating area and sat down, and missed a small sign saying that you wait to be seated. The woman stormed out of the restaurant pointing at us and asked us abruptly if we were English. We thought she was being friendly and nodded and smiled that we are English. She then launched into a tirade about how we should have waited to be seated, and marched over to point at the sign. She continued to berate and humiliate us and tell us off as if we had done something terrible. I'm assuming she has an issue with English tourists (she seems to be making generalisations about english people which is extremely problematic and bordering on discriminatory), despite the fact we would have been nothing but respectful and polite and the 5 of us were about to order lunch. After listening to her lecture and telling us off as if we were school children, we felt sufficiently disrespected and decided to leave. As we got up, she sarcastically said goodbye to us. There are many reviews that say the same thing and each time they respond with aggressive denial. This time will be no different. Deeply unpleasant staff who are exremely rude and aggressive to customers for no reason. If many foreign customers sit down without asking it is because your sign is too small and that is their culture. It is not because a whole nation are rude. This does not justify your rudeness or your sarcastic "goodbye" when they choose to leave rather than be abused. Incapable of considering reviews without outright...

The food is wonderful and plenty! The service is impeccable, fast and the staff is ready to help in every way.
