Le Vauquelin — Restaurant in Caen

My son and I stayed in an AIRBNB just around the corner and our host recommended this restaurant! It was amazing. They accommodated us with last minute reservations and we were so grateful. The food was out of this world! My son had a steak (orders a steak everywhere we go) and he said it was one of the best he’s ever had! I had the chicken which was fresh, full of flavor and perfectly prepared. We got the ravioli/shrimp starter which was also good and the cheesecake was to die for. They had an extensive wine selection which paired perfect fully with our meal. Overall this was a wonderful experience. Price was fair, atmosphere was quaint, personal and nicely decorated. Resubmit. Review for visit in July 2022. Google asks me to describe my experience here at Vauquelin. Although I didn't eat the steak but one of my guests did and said it was good. Just wish it comes with a little extra fries. My dish of fish, as in the photo, was a little over cooked, and the tagliatelle was al dente, I like it a bit softer. We ordered a menu du jour which was a steak, for our younger kids to share. It was enough for both of them. Plus, the young and pleasant waitress brought a little plate and cover for the other kid. I didn't fancy the dessert of the day but one of my child enjoyed it very much - the salted caramel on vanilla ice cream was good. All good other than the patron. A very arrogant man who when we asked if we could have a table inside with our dogs he said no we needed to sit outside. Then said that's normal in France. We have lived in France for more than 30 years, and it is not normal as most restaurants welcome dogs. I said I was surprised because it was not our experience and he said I was wrong and repeated that it was normal. He then said we didn't need to stay and we could leave if we wanted.
