A great place to eat in Calais.
Aquar'Aile is located on the top floor of an apartment block.. ..on our first visit we weren't sure if we were in the right place.
However, when you get out of the lift onto the top floor you walk into a large dining room with panoramic views of the English Channel. On a clear day you can see England.
There are 2 Formule options - the Gourmand and the Plaisir as well as a la carte dishes.
The Gourmand is a feast - starter, main, cheese and dessert - at a reasonable price for the quality of food on offer.
So to the food. I've eaten at Aquar'Aile half a dozen times now and have never failed to be impressed by they quality of the cuisine. The menu is heavy on seafood options, but there also meat options - I can recommend the Filet de boeuf Rossigny.
The cheese board.. ..or rather cheese cart.. ..has a huge selection to choose from.
The wine list is vast and has good options at all price levels.
An important part of any dining experience is the ambiance. In this respect I can't fault Aquar'Aile - they are friendly, not overly formal and extremely accommodating of special requests.
Can you tell I...
Read moreI went to eat a monday evening, the building looks a bit odd and very retro, i was very confused entering the place because it was very isolated from other restaurnats( at least by night). the decoration is a combination between contemporary and quite vintage chairs( not sure if this was the intention ) i took a menu but most of the choices was with supplement like the lobster starter +7 euro or the chef idea as main course + 8 euro( more or less) not quite sure if it was worth it. the view is really nice and the service very professional. i asked for a chocolate dessert but there was some problem with it because i couldn t cut the crust with the knife, i reported to the waiter and he gave me a meat knife but it was still very hard and i had to send it back. they removed the dessert ( 10 euros) from the bill. i find the prices more expensive than some other places, especially if you take the courses with additional costs, also the 10 euro for a glass of wine moelleux is very pricey. maybe it's worth to...
Read moreThis restaurant came with a recommendation prior to us arriving in itcalais so we booked ahead. We were welcomed in a very professional and friendly way and nothing was made to feel like a hassle. The staff were attentive and spoke English well.
We started with a glass of champagne each then ordered a Chablis from the extensive wine list.
We were served a duo amuse bouche, the first was a haddock panna cotta then a leek and fish velouté - both were incredible.
I had the mussel velouté to start, which was beautiful, my partner had the smoked salmon terrine, also outstanding.
We shared the large fruits de mer and a steak - excellent choice 👌🏼.
We were then offered cheese, which was the best selection either of us had seen for a long time.
For desserts I had the chocolate mousse with a slice of toasted brioche and my partner ordered the...
