Having had a good experience eating here in the past we specifically chose the hotel just across the street to stay in prior to crossing the channel the next day. Making it a type of dinner bed and breakfast.
We entered the restaurant and were quickly met by a member of the staff and asked for a table for two. We were ushered to a table just inside the door and as it was a cold wet night asked for a different table. Had it not been for another member of staff (a manager possibly) we would have been given no choice.
We were given a booth and menus and sat down. I was not comfortable in the cramped booth and moved over one table to a table with movable seats. I have a knee injury and canât sit comfortably without stretching my leg.
Neither my wife or I touched the table in the booth but the first member of staff we had met made a show of cleaning the table TWICE!
We picked what we wanted to eat and drink and waited to be served. The serving staff made a show of speaking with the bar staff while looking and pointing at us. This began to feel intimidating and somewhat humiliating.
The first member of staff seemed to have a massive problem with our lack of French. I speak 3 languages but not French. But who needs to speak the native language in a restaurant? I have travelled all over the world and never failed to order food. It started to feel a little racially motivated. People all around us were being served but not us. The other customers around us were now paying us a great deal of attention clearly picking up on what the staff were doing.
After 15 minutes of sitting waiting, with members of the bar staff and serving staff clearly talking about us and pointing at us the first member of staff came close enough for us to ask for a drink and to order food. She said 2 minutes and walked off.
After another few minutes she came back and said that the section of the restaurant we were sitting in was now closed and she pointed at the original small table just inside the door.
I and my wife now felt totally humiliated and embarrassed. I now strongly felt that she was acting in a racially motivated manner.
I am a financial director of a company that runs a hotel with a bar and restaurant. I would terminate the employment of any of our staff if I found out that they had treated any customers in any part of our business in such a disgusting manner. I sincerely hope that you look into this matter and deal with it accordingly.
You will see from my profile that I tend not to leave poor reviews as I am acutely aware of how difficult it is to make a business profitable in the current economic climate but can not let this pass. Ironically the service in the Mac Donaldâs next door...

We unfortunately saw him take the ribs out the freezer, and microwave them. If you've ever had a rustlers BBQ rib microwave meal, that was it. Microwaved ribs with no sense of flavour or dignity. The burger was okay, apart from the third patty in the stack was bright red. It's a no from me! Milkshakes were great. Food was... Not.
Cost us âŹ55 for two of us which isn't too bad. Only go here if it is convenient and you know what you want before you go in. Or you just want to relax to some great music and get a warm sense of...
