I am giving this restaurant only 1 star. Not because of the restaurant but because of the area. We dined at Le Petit Caporal which is next door. We were on the Seabourn Encore cruise ship.
Three of entered the nearly deserted restaurant and ordered two drinks and a large pizza. We were going to shared the pizza. The bill would have been about $35E.
The waiter asked, “Are you from the big ship?”
We replied that we were, indeed from the ship. He then stated, “We are very busy” and implied we didn’t order enough food and they didn’t want our business. He brought the two drinks; beer and Prosecco.
I walked to the bar and cancelled the pizza and told him we would take our business to a less busy restaurant. I paid $12E for the drinks and walked back to the table and took one drink of my beer. I poured the Prosecco into an empty water glass because I didn’t want them putting it back in the bottle. The waiter began clapping as we left and shouted, “This isn’t your country. You are not from here!”
I told him he could “Fu*k himself”.
He shouted down the street for us to “Go Fu*k yourselves!”
We dodged the numerous piece of dog poop on the streets as we left this filthy town and rude...
Read moreLoved everything about this restaurant, the food, the service and the ambience. As another reviewer said, when all things are excellent then why not come again and again. We did. When went on two consecutive nights and loved it both times. Not speaking French was not a hindrance. The wait staff were excellent as were the chefs. Watching over it all was the maître de, no doubt the owner who is meticulous. I noticed his watchful eye all night, witnessed his attention to the little details that shows his love for his profession. Over two nights we had the moules with coconut ginger broth, fritto misto, brick goats cheese panzetta in honey pastry and the Risotto Saint Jacques. We often share dishes as we are not big eaters. All the food was delightful. By the way, the desserts are decadent and worth the adventure to indulge. One usually enough for both of us. So this keeps the spend down. So our €84 spend is misleading if you want individual dishes for all course. As I said we are not big eaters and are happy the share a dish for...
Read moreWe started with the mussels and a cheese plate, which were both quite tasty and set promising expectations for the rest of the meal. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. The tartare was served on a pesto base, which completely overpowered the delicate flavor of the fish—an odd and poorly balanced combination.
The main courses were a real letdown. We ordered rigattoni with seafood, but what arrived was rigatoni floating in an oily, watery sauce with overcooked seafood that was rubbery and flavorless. The fritto misto was no better—dry, over-fried, and lacking any of the crisp freshness you'd expect from a dish like that.
To make matters worse, when we expressed our concerns to the waitstaff, they made no effort to address the issue. They avoided the conversation entirely and offered no apology or explanation. The lack of response only added to our...
