I loved it. Travelling from Australia, sometimes finding the right restaurant can be difficult. Our host at La Maison de Trapel (a great b&b) recommended Le Moulin de Trèbes and noted, rightly, that a reservation would be needed.
Service was excellent, from initial booking with my terrible French through to welcoming and looking after us. Just the right level of attentiveness and letting you be.
Food was outstanding. Three of us dined. Entrées: salmon gravalax x2 + foie gras Plats: bœuf + canard + poussion du jour (sea bass) All dishes were great. Gravalax great - beetroot with it a highlight. The boeuf was slight smoked which was delightful (potatoes with the Beef were probably the only thing that could have been better). My sea bass was outstanding- the lobster bisque with it set I’d off beautifully.
Started off with a lovely local crémant and then a local Shiraz-like varietal I hadn’t had before - unless you a super wine person trust the owner, she knows the local wines and has a list of about 50 (and don’t forget you can cork and take it with you if you don’t finish it so please do dive into a local bottle!)
Dessert was the spéculos millefeuille and chocolat fondant. Both were lovely. The mains certainly stood out.
This is a great restaurant and I would definitely...
Read moreI have hesitated writing this review for a few years (we ate here August 7th 2019)...eating here was easily one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. My partner ordered a pork dish and shortly into the meal she bit into a piece of bone within the meat and fractured a tooth. Really, mistakes can happen, and this was forgivable. But the horror is what happened next. The server took the plate away after we identified the bone on the plate. She spoke to the chef, and then came back without the plate and told us crossly that there was not a bone in the meat. Essentially acusing us of making the whole thing up. The plate was gone along with the evidence, and with just a few mouthfuls eaten and we were told she could order something else and pay for it in addition to the now disappeared original order. A simple apology and an offer of a second main course free of charge would have be just fine...but either the chef or server took an inexplicably belligerent approach. To sum up, the service was insulting, discourteous, coukd not take legitimate criticism, and worst of all engaged in untruthful antics to cover...
Read moreC’est Terrible, living on a past Michelin Star, I ordered Salmon Gravalax for starters, it was mixed with strips of carrot and a few spoons of tomato puree out of a can, what happened to seasoning with cornicons or capors, or some pickled veg, boring and tasteless, my husband had the oysters which were delicious, my main corse of John Dory, was over cooked and served with a mash of carrots and potatoes and CUMIN!!!!!, have to say it tased awful, my husband had Turbot and it was just ok. I returned both of my dishes half eaten and was never asked if everything was ok! This is the worst kind of restaurant, only four tables occupied, Chef or Patron not interested in whether the diners enjoyed their meal or not, take the money and run. The waitresses were very pleasant and I did leave them a tip, the don’t cook or own the Restaurant. Such a beautiful setting such really awful food, I cook all the time, I am not a chef, but I would present better food than this. Avoid...
