L'Oustalet - Gigondas, Restaurant étoilé et Chambres d'hôtes — Restaurant in Carpentras

Ate a 3 hour lunch today at this one Michelin star restaurant in the heart of Gigondas. Excellent food, service and atmosphere! We had the fixed price lunch starting off with two amuse bouche, a fish with lemon and honey, and an eggplant over buffalo mozzarella. The entree was a tomato over a mix of vegetables and pine nuts with a bright citrusy taste. Mains were a smoked filet with a side of charred lettuce with a bit of sardines and mullet with an onion side. All the dishes were excellent and plates were licked clean! A cheese course with Comte and black olive tapenade and goat cheese with honey along with their excellent bread was next. Dessert was roasted figs with fig preserve and a fig ice cream covered with a rosemary touille cookie. Finished with espresso and Gigondas Marc liquor. All was accompanied by a red and a white Gigondas picked by the sommelier to match the food. Service was attentive but not hovering and the decor was tasteful and beautiful. We were on our way home to the South of France from Morzine, and thought this would be a good place to break our journey. What a brilliant decision!||||Not only did we have an extremely comfortable room (suite, room 2) with plenty of space, well-stocked fridge, and air-conditioning (necessity as it was 30 degrees and rising outside...) but we had a delicious pairing menu at their restaurant, and sat outside at the wine bar the next morning with a wonderful breakfast selection and fabulous coffee....||||All in all, this little stopover cost us a fortune. We simply could not resist purchasing some of the extremely interesting white Vacqueyras wine that came with our starter in the pairing menu, but also some of the fabulous red Gigondas that was paired with our lamb. ||||We set of south the next day, with a smile on our face, and a boot full of wine!||||We would strongly recommend a stay in these delightful rooms, unless you have a fear of open stairs with no handrail, in which case only the ground floor room would be suitable for you.
