L'Estran — Restaurant in Cherbourg

Already logically victims of their success (make sure you book in advance!) we discovered this restaurant which mixes a modern young touch with traditional recipes and local products... And they do it really well! We had the "menu marée haute" and let them guide us with wines... A great experience from the very beginning (delicious amuse -bouche and homemade amazing butter) to the entrées (oeuf courge moutarde followed by encornets pomme cajun) to the mains (perfectly cooked lieu jaune, highlight of the night pan cooked pigeonnaud with corn and estragon) a great cheese plate and nice deserts (quoi de mieux que chocolat et framboises pour finir...). An espresso to conclude a beautiful meal served with the sophistication of an étoilé but with an extra smile and friendliness! The team cares for the whole experience! We had a great one! Good news is: the menu changes very often! We will be back! Thanks...

Lovely last lunch in France. Gorgeous position overlooking the harbour in Saint Vaast. Interesting thoughtful and taste driven food, relaxed service and interesting wine list. My only criticism a nut and wasabi paste to mix in the squid starter didn't have enough heat. The nut dominated and the wasabi heat struggled to come through.

An beef fillet and artichoke main was devine. I initially bulked at the thought of vanilla in the artichoke puree, thinking it wrong for the dish. How wrong I was! The rich jus was a counterpoint to the vanilla flavour and provided balance. My dish of the year!

The strawberry and rhubarb start to finish was light of touch, the pastry thr stand out.

One thing to add the bread was divine. Better than the bread I regularly have in a Michelin star...

We had a delightful dinner for four at L'Estran restaurant in St Vaast, the food was excellent and the staff were very welcoming. The menu was not as extensive as might be found in a 'big' restaurant, but it was very interesting; everything was fresh, cooked to order, and the quality and presentation were superb. We left the restaurant very happy........it was undoubtedly the best restaurant that we found in our five day...
