Restaurant L’Abri — Restaurant in Cherbourg

It was the most unpleasant experience in a restaurant ever. We booked this restaurant for a family dinner (4 adults and 1 baby). Me and the little one were late so as us arriving at the restaurant, we deserved NO greetings NO service but just a huge rolling eye from the lady owner. After we sat down, we were not offered a menu or any service still but an owner with huge attitude. So we had to share the 3 main courses among all of us in the end and wait for the desserts. Unfortunately the evening still ended up with an argument after they told me to keep the baby from touching their handrails. Excuse me? It is called HAND-rails! And plus, for those two hours we spent there, we’ve kept the baby to ourselves all the time and she’s super quiet! I am not sure what made these two extremely rude and mean people chose to be in the hospitality industry. I do feel very sorry for them. Last but not least, the food is in generous portion but average taste as any of the restaurants nearby...

I really don't understand the reasons behind the previous negative reviews. My wife and I had a very good meal served by friendly and helpful staff. My wife ordered a starter as a main course (despite being asked by the waitress if that was all she wanted!). When her meal was served the waitress said that the chef had given her a larger portion because he thought she had made a mistake. We shared the "starter" and ordered another main. We were looking for somewhere nice for lunch and thought it looked nice. We were almost put off by some of the reviews but we had a really good experience. The atmosphere was quite friendly and welcoming although we were seated in a small corner, and the service was attentive and efficient, even though the restaurant was very busy.
