Where do you start..? I have been to this restaurant several times now and always enjoyed the meals served.
Before you think about booking a table you firstly need to think what you want from your meal. The chef and his wife are very true to several causes including local produce, the Gers, fine dining in a comfortable environment and definitely not wanting anything to be main stream. Once you understand that and appreciate that is their way then you will truly enjoy the meals and environment they create. Home made lemonade, no standard coke or pepsi drinks, local wine with organic choices no burgers or fries here it is all just great food.
My wife and daughter had an sparks starter while I had carpacio - fantastic. For mains a confite pork dish and hake with lentils. Followed by the most amazing deserts. The surroundings and decor are all very good with lovely little touches and best of all because this restaurant is only a reflection of the chef and his wife they understand everything about their food and wine and all the bits from the lights to the pictures reflect their love of the Gers and the local food. If you want a great meal on the Gers go here. If you want chain type meals go to the chains.
Then there is the price - €18 for 3 courses - €102 for three of us including a bottle of wine, soft drinks and coffees, makes this the best fine dining value I have ever experienced. If they did 6 stars this place would...
Read moreWe have eaten here a number of times in hopes of trying to understand why others give this restaurant a strong review. But, this time it was truly not good at all, on all fronts, except the wine ordered which was excellant. To us, this restaurant is attempting to be something it's clearly not. The food was completely sub-par which I won't even go into. The atmosphere needs serious help. The only small saving grace was that the server at least was pleasant and smiled although never returned to the table to "check" on us after each course was served. Note to restaurant owners - you should meet and greet all guests equally and not just a very select few who you obviously knew. For what it's worth (as I'm sure the chef can cook) - just try to serve great food that is well prepared and nicely presented instead of attempting ultra fussy dishes that simply do not work for most diners. Very disappointing when we know it has a lot more potential than what we...
Read moreThird time at Racine, and still enchanted. I had the beetroot hummus with fried chickpeas and the world’s thinnest Melba toast (how do they do that?) followed by perfectly cooked stuffed courgettes with almonds and spelt. My husband had mussels followed by hake with confit tomatoes and black rice. It was all excellent. We sat outside as it was a hot day, but could hear a convivial buzz from inside the restaurant. It’s wonderful to have a restaurant that gives as much thought and care to its vegetarian dishes as it gives to the rest of the menu. The menu is always fresh, seasonal and changes constantly. I can happily order two courses and finish everything as the dishes are light and nothing is done to excess. I wholeheartedly recommend...
