Spoiled by the locals... :-(
I ate here in a group of 4, with my girlfriend and her parents.
Despite it being 11pm, we found ourselves sat next to the most obnoxious family, with 3 very young children, screaming, shrieking and shouting all through dinner, while standing on their chairs.
This was a very obvious disturbance which regrettably the staff chose to ignore. It got to the point where we could no longer hold a conversation or tolerate the behaviour and my girlfriend's father politely asked them if they could keep the noise down. At this point we were subjected to over 5 minutes of verbal abuse and further shouting from both the adults at the table.
Despite the shouting and the fact things were clearly escalating, the staff chose to disappear rather than intervene or diffuse the situation. It started to get quite ridiculous and uncomfortable with the couple continuing to shout at us and encourage their children to do the same!!
The man at the table kept saying about how much he disliked tourists and people with money coming here and thinking they owned the place. He said lived there and that we should tolerate his children. We tried to ignore them, but him, his wife and children persisted in shouting at us quite aggressively and wouldn't stop.
We decided to leave halfway through desert and received a very brief apology from our server as we paid the bill. At this point one of the staff members, that appeared senior went and sat next to the obnoxious family. I'd like to think he was 'having a word' about their behaviour but from the way this family had been talking I fear they were regulars.
We probably visit this restaurant 3 or 4 times a year and generally things are good, but in future I think we will start to look elsewhere. It's a shame really. :-(
I don't think I have ever been made to feel less welcome anywhere on the island and this type of unprovoked behaviour is inexcusable anywhere. The guy was very lucky that he was sat with his family and I was sat with mine, as normally I am less tolerant of...
Read moreA lovely spot for an impromptu lunch today while walking around Ars en Ré. We were seated and attended to promptly, and the friendly waiter gave us the perfect amount of time to choose both our drinks and our meal. The bread placed on the table was free and not a trap to get a few extra Euros out of you, unlike some restaurants. The mussels with fries were delicious and a huge helping; we decided to share them and that was plenty!
We opted to sit on the harbour side, although they also have seats on the other side of the road and within the...
Read moreSUPER SPOT. We arrived for lunch on a Sunday and it was jam packed so we assumed we would be waiting. We were shown straight to our seats. The waiter we had was really excellent, and took our orders in record time. He also recommended wine which was excellent. The kids had sausages and chips, I had fajitas and the wife prawns. Ice Cream and New York Cheesecake for dessert! The food was excellent and came out really quickly despite the restaurant being full.
Really nice spot for a bite to eat, sit outside by the...
