I loved the Hotel Berneron! M and Mme Berneron were delightful and helpful. M Berneron, who speaks English like a native, took time to tell about some of the places in the area and make a dinner reservation for me during my stay. I lucked out with parking in the 3-4 spots they have reserved outside the hotel's front door as a bonus. My room was very comfortable, and had a marvelous bathtub I used after a long day of caving. The breakfast was astonishingly good and so abundant! My regret is that the restaurant has closed, at least temporarily, due to the ill health of the chef. According to M Berneron, Chef worked there with him and his father for 40 years. The younger M Berneron just doesn't have the heart to start all over yet with another chef, which tells you something of his excellent character and loyalty. Mme Berneron, who doesn't speak English, I did not get to know, but she was lovely and warm regardless. I would recommend staying there - it is elegant without being stuffy and is just outside the crush of humanity that is...
Read moreStayed in the Hotel Berneron for 3 nights on a short trip to the Ardeche, The hotel is a little gem in the middle of town, we had a recently renovated and air conditioned room (considering it was 36c this was amazing) with a lovely view out the back up to the mountains, has a lovely lounge area with a restaurant, we only had breakfast there as it wasn't peak period so not open in the evenings yet. It has a really nice bar with a great variety of drinks available. The hotel has a nice pool, with a seating area at the back, this is currently being expanded and some very nice new garden chairs, tables, etc have been bought for this and a new lift is being installed at the back which takes you down to the private gated car park at the rear. It's a family owned and run hotel, Jean-Louis Bernard the owner is a super host, very knowledgable and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay here and when the upgrades are done it will be...
Read moreLoved this hotel. All of the staff were considerate and helpful. The decor is really classy. The lounge has the feel of an upmarket fishing lodge with plenty of books, some lovely primitive art on the walls (Vallon boasts some of the earliest cave paintings), comfy leather couches with (invariably) cool jazz adding ambience to the surroundings. All in all, I felt very at home. The hotel is quiet, the outdoor pool is heated. There is secure private parking. Chez Berneron sits on the edge of the town which is a buzzing, sporty, family-oriented locale: Tons of bars and restaurants, a beautiful carousel in the main square, two supermarkets and vineyards with walk-in shops all around. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely. It has two stars - I'm guessing, for the rooms, which decor wise are fairly unexciting. However they are clean and comfortable. The rest of the hotel is far from plain, deserves 4 stars and a...
