Hippopotamus — Restaurant in Lyon

My boyfriend and I ate here our first night ever in Lyon since we don’t do fast food and didn’t want it to be a big fuss. We didn’t expect too terribly much, but the staff was amazing!!! They were beyond friendly (genuinely, at that) and super on top of it. They represented Lyon well and gave us a great first impression. ☺️ Unfortunately I’m the better French speaker out of me and my boyfriend and I MAYBE know as much as a 3 year old, so we were a little nervous. The waitresses and their food runner, to our surprise, spoke English and were happy to communicate with us that way so I didn’t have to stumble through my French too much. It was a breath of fresh air that they weren’t turned off by speaking to us in English either, like some folks are. The food was great - no problems with the order. On top of all that, it was a phenomenal value. We would definitely recommend this place - we even made sure to let our native French friends (who are actually from Lyon) know about our experience and told them they should check it out if it’s been a while. We were in Lyon for a short trip and were looking forward to having a good steak dinner. This place seemed busy which was a good soon! We were quickly sat, and the waiter was very nice. We ordered a cocktail each and a starter, the burrata and the patatas bra as, and they were nice. For a main, ordered the peppered steak, and were not told what cut of meat it was. When it came out, we were disappointed by the portion, which was very small, and it was unevenly cooked. We asked for it medium, and only part were medium, others were well done. It was disappointing, as it was very tough to cut, and the poor knives didn’t help. My friend got the burrata for a starter and was offered bread but it was completely stale, and hard. Kindest and most thoughtful experience in Lyon. Wanted to order delivery but could not successfully set up an account with either deiveroo or ubereats. So that I called to the restaurant directly and spoke with Manager who offered to have the order delivered at Hotel where I am staying, as Hotel is very close by. I had half of chicken and green beans, plus rice, which were delicious. I had actually eaten in the restaurant yesterday, about 5:00 pm, and had the half of chicken and green beans and loved it, very delicious and healthy. Having it delivered directly today was kind and even creative, since mot restaurants would never think of doing that as it was not the usual.
