MARIA. — Restaurant in Lyon

Had a FANTASTIC experience at Maria! Their menu is simple and focused on what they do well: True Traditional Neapolitan pizza. It was hard to decide on what to order because all of their pizzas sounded amazing. My wife and I both got to Mergellina which was incredible. Very flavorful and a creative combination of ingredients. We eat a lot of takeout, wood fired pizza back in the states and have even made our own many times. And it’s clear that the dough and methods at Maria are LEGIT!

We didn’t have a reservation but rather just popped in at the middle of a busy Saturday night to try to order takeout. The staff was super friendly and took our order and the pizzas were up within a matter of MINUTES! Very impressive for how clearly busy they were. Even taking them back to our hotel room and letting them cook a bit, they were still super tasty. Next time we’ll definitely try them fresh!

Anyone who has rated this place poorly simply doesn’t know what they’re talking about and has no credibility when it comes to pizza. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!

We were told that this was the best pizza in Lyon but unfortunately this was not the case. All four pizzas that we ordered were soggy in the middle and somewhat tasteless. And beware that there are two servings in the earlier serving and a later serving. If you make reservations at the earlier serving you will be asked to leave your table for the next serving. We had barely enough time to finish our desserts which consisted of soft ice cream with crumbled lemon cake on the side or soft ice cream with six raspberries. Nothing to write home about! We've eaten at both restaurants and again this is not your typical typically French etiquette for restaurants. Best meal we have had in awhile - and we do not say that lightly (as foodies and people of ok taste). To start with the service, everyone was extremely kind despite it being so busy, the genuine type of people to look you in the eye with a smile. The food … omg. The dough is thin, but amazing texture. Slightly bouncy. The flavours are insane! Seems the ingredients are sourced from Italy, they definitely taste that way. The chilli sauce to accompany the pizza was the cherry on top.

Only sad part was they ran out of tiramisu … we got ice cream - asked for a surprise topping and they got creative with it and didn’t disappoint! Also amazing amazing value for what you get.
