Last Friday, we went to the péniche to celebrate the 30th birthday of a friend after booking a table for 8. We chose this restaurant because of its nice setting in Meaux and the reputation of the place. Upon arrival, we waited to finally receive the menu. We ordered three course meals and an apéritif. The 9€ so-called "cocktail" was basically a kir that was far from extraordinary. As mises en bouche, we got some squid, served with disposable plastic spoons ! For starters, we had some foie gras for an extra 3€. The foie gras served to us might not have been "mousse", but at least "bloc" and not a whole foie gras, which is what could have been expected for that price. In the meantime, we had tried to order wine, upon which the owner replied "non", which was meant to be a joke, I guess, but we still had to insist to order it. The mains arrived. The steak was not good. Two of us ordered scallops for an extra 6€. The four scallops were tiny. The duck burger was good enough, though it was minced meat. We were then told that we were too loud and disturbing the other guests. We ate, or tried to eat, our desserts. Most of us ordered chocolate fondants (we had avoided the "laminated pancakes", poor translation of "millefeuille de crêpes"). They were not fondants, but industrial defrosted cakes that tasted like "Napolitain" by LU. Most of us could not finish it because it was genuinely awful. Those of us who did not order a dessert tasted it for fun because this meal had turned into a farce. We hadn't eaten up our desserts, which we could not eat up anyway, that the owner took our plates. We told the owners that we were unhappy about our experience at la péniche and they didn't seem to care at all. No geste commercial whatsoever was offered. #poorquality #expensive...
Read moreAmazing place! It was recommended to us by our host and did not disappoint. The dishes are exquisite truly! They have ingredients brought in from Argentina!! Our waitress was also really nice. Warned us about hot plates, explaining aaaalll the choices and told us where each of the cheeses comes from.
So sorry we didn’t have more small money to tip you better.
Water and bread...
