La Piazzetta — Restaurant in Nîmes

I came here on my own following a recommendation from my hotel. It was quite disappointing - I felt rushed and it was clear that my value as a single customer was felt to be much lower than a couple or group. Within 5 minutes of sitting down, my meal was served and the staff were already trying to clear my plate after 10 minutes until I protested I was still eating. I’m all for quick service and efficiency but not at the expertise of customer experience. I can’t even offer language barrier as an excuse since I spoke French with all the staff. Only one young waitress made eye contact and offered a smile, the others either served me silently or spoke to the table next door rather than engaging with me. The food itself was, I felt, average but maybe the service had left a bitter taste in my mouth. It’s great that you’re busy but pay attention to your customers or you’ll find they look elsewhere for an enjoyable evening. We were made to feel very welcome from arrival. The lady at the front of house managed to fit my wife and I plus our Spaniel in a very nice inside table with views of the square and fountain. The food was incredible and well served with a bottle of wine she recommended and very reasonably priced. The owner, Nicola, was going from table to table, including ours, making everyone feel like friends even though it was extremely busy. He also saw us out and thanked us for visiting. Lovely restaurant in a charming setting, overlooking a beautiful square and fountains. The menu is quite extensive offering appetizers, salads, red and white pizzas, many kinds of pasta as well as some meat and seafood options. We ordered a salad, creatively served inside a crisp parmiggiano basket, with arugula, fresh buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, and balsamic drizzle.
