I visit a lot of museums of antiquity, but for a Roman history affecionado especially, Nimes Romanite museum is one of the best museums I have ever visited. Do not be deceived by the modern architecture of the building, housing one of the most spectacular Roman Empire collections anywhere in the world, besides Rome. I loved the modern framing of the vistas of the Ancients. The most modern, multilingual, interactive visitor friendly displays, mosaics to envy, I particularly loved the projections on the tombstones, very touching! The temporary exhibition.on Pompeii, If you have never been there or in Naples, is well worth the visit. Some Pompeii exhibits have never been seen outside of Italy, and upon their return will sit in the dark for 1.5 years, to rest from us modern humans. Do yourself a favour buy Nimes Pass (€17 full price adult ticket) it includes the Museum, Maison Carree, the Arena and the Magne Tower. Even for a person well versed in Roman history, you will learn something new. The toys and boardgames of Romans, an interactive display, is one such example. You will look at some of the most well known frescoes and reliefs of the time with new eyes. Disabled access throughout makes me give it two thumbs up on top of everything else. I can't believe I missed the rooftop and the view...

Beautiful museum but our visit was spoilt by the entrance staff not informing me that the museum would be closed early on Friday for an evening event. I had purchased a 'Roman 3 day pass' that was now useless as you can only have one visit per attraction. If I had known that I would have saved the museum, the most expensive attraction for the Sunday. I had a whole floor left to explore and I was originally thrilled that the museum hours were until 7pm. Not everyone has an deep wallet so I asked if we could continue our curtailed visit on one of the other 3 days. I did my best to explain in French but it seems no discretion is allowed and we were refused entry to finish our experience. Having worked in the museum sector, I found this lack of flexibility for non France tourists, very disappointing. My advice is the museum is well worth 2- 3 hour visit. If you are not French speaking check on the web thoroughly that there is not early closing as your visit could turn out to be very poor value indeed when asked to...

We went into the museum today as we had heard the rooftop restaurant was great. We walked towards the elevator to see the restaurant and to look at the menu. There was a small reception desk beside the elevator. There was a black girl working at it. She was busy talking to someone at the time so we continued going to the elevator. We don’t speak French so there was a language barrier. We didn’t realize we had to stop at the reception desk. She was extremely rude to us, giving us bad looks as if we did something terrible!! We were very shocked. She asked us where are we going. We said we were just going to look at the rooftop restaurant and possibly the menu. She continued to speak rudely to us and questioned us, asking did we make a reservation. I’ve never had someone speak to me so rudely and we felt very unwelcome. I completely understand that people can have bad days. But if you cant pretend to be kind then maybe you shouldn’t be a receptionist. The whole experience put us off going to...

The Most Interactive and Thoughtful Museum! The Musée de la Romanité is by far one of the most interactive, thoughtful, and well-laid-out museum I've visited. Navigation is a breeze; you can simply follow the arrows to know where to go next. The museum offers a wealth of videos and written explanations in French, English, and Spanish, ensuring that everyone can fully appreciate the exhibits. Additionally, there are guides walking around the museum ready to answer any questions you might have. The museum is rich with historical information and artistic presentations, creating a truly immersive and interactive experience. My only regret is not getting the audio guide, which I'm sure would have added even more depth to the visit. The audio guide was 4 euros. Also of note was the temporary exhibition on Achilles! It was a very beautiful and interactive exhibit. Highly recommend visiting this museum!

In few words • Museum dedicated to the Pre, Post and Roman period with many many artifacts, goodies, tools, etc. used at the time. Nice mosaics and many tombstones. Weird layout tho. It is a nice museum that you can visit in between 1h and 1h30m, mostly with romanic history. The medieval part feels misplaced. It has a modern concept with tactile screens and touchy spots (3D prints, etc). It is a good addition to the city (Nîmes) tour. I bought the whole pass for 17€ which includes the big important monuments. Definitely worth it. What I find a little confusing is the path you must follow in order to correctly (from B.C to A.C) advance through the collections. And I loved the mosaics. They have some very pretty and well conserved ones.

I spent more than five hours exploring the museum. It is very well organized and offers multimedia tools that make learning much easier. And it entertains you. I have been to several museums, and this is the best one I have been to so far, as it has adapted very well to the current times of teaching. I had the opportunity to visit the American Museum of Natural History in New York and it has a lot to learn from the Musée de la Romanité . As another thing that amazed me was the architecture that looks beautiful on the outside, but it is on the inside where you get the impact. At one moment it is as if you open a shutter and through the window you see the past. And there it is, in all its splendor, the Arena of Nimes. A marvel!
