OOH, What a change - A Very Pleasant Surprise!
We used to be a regular visitor for many years when in Homps but hadn’t returned since 2014 when we tired of the repetitive menu (see TA review of that time), despite visiting Homps at least a couple of times a year (excepting lockdown) since.
We decided to give them another go this year having heard some good local reports and so visited with friends at the end of April.
The place it seems is now being run by Dylan who’s friendly welcome was encouraging.
We were seated in the atrium dining area which was light and fresh (so it should be having only opened 15th April) and buzzing with attentive and efficient staff.
The first note of change for us were the different offerings which looked refreshing and inviting.
I chose the Menu at E28 where I opted for the Warm Mackerel salad to start and the Suprême de Pintade à la Forestière as a main, whilst my wife went for the Salade de Chèvre chaud from the a’ la carte.
I have to say that I was impressed with the presentation of both my chosen dishes as well as the taste which always helps. I understand that the goats cheese salad too was also very much enjoyed. Good reports received from our friends too without exception.
As a pud I opted for the cafe gourmand which was satisfying also.
The house vin rouge shared amongst us was excellent and greatly enjoyed.
The atmosphere was convivial and there was a buzz about the place. The food, whilst a little more expensive than at our last visit (understandably), was good quality and enjoyed.
We were very pleased with the ‘new look’ La Peniche and will put it back on our favoured restaurants list. Well done Dylan - more power...
Read moreOrdered a pizza which came underdone (bottom of pizza white). When I asked to bake a little more, it came grilled: top bit toasted, almost burnt, bottom of pizza still white! Goat's cheese salad was good. White wine (pitcher) was less than chilled, so I asked to put in freezer for a bit, but waiter suggested ice. Surprisingly did the trick because was good, and I imagine local. 3 stars because of the unsatisfactory solution to the pizza, and the wine should have been more chilled to begin with. Polite service and ambience agreeable. So kitchen and bar were the let-downs! Pay attention to the small details! Won't come back for the pizza (if it's standard to bake a white pizza), but may try the...
Read moreMe and wife went 2 times to this restaurant. It is a very clean and relaxed place to have dinner. The menu is very good, has vegetarian food , pizza and specialities. On behalf of price for me and my wife we spended around 85 bucks and left the restaurant with a very plenty feeling. The people who work there are very friendly. On the second day we had pizza, it was very delicious. It is traditionally baked in an oven on wood. I recommend the Catalan pizza with chorizo and the hot sauce that comes along. It was so delicious I ate a second pizza. They have some great Belgian beer , I had Leffe. I strongly recommend this place. If one day I come back, I surely will visit this...
