Takeaway pizzas were ok, but the dine-in experience was very poor. 5 stars for the young kid helping. 4 stars for the bread. 0 stars for everything else.
Based on the 4.7 reviews we decided to try this place for dinner, with our 5yo son. We chose the veal and the lasagna... and as soon as it came out (very quickly) we regretted not ordering pizza.
The veal was a massive 2 piece portion (as pictured by others), but sadly, size did not match (or compensate for) quality. It was incredibly greasy and large sections of it were inedible raw fat. We chose the pasta side with tomato sauce (a backup option for our son to eat) but it was pretty tasteless. I would guess it was warmed chopped tomato from a tin with nothing added. We all love pasta but none of us wanted more than a taste.
The lasagne came in a spitting boiling hot bowl - any tomato sauce that touched the bowl would spray boiling hot drops around, when scooping a spoonful out to put on my son's plate. The quality was not what we had hoped from a 4.7 rated Italian restaurant. It was a mushy hot mess.
The highlight was the bread - which they forgot to bring until 10 mins or so after we had started our mains - it was deliciously good. Homemade focaccia, I think.
We would have been happier with more of the bread and less of the veal. Or even instead of the veal.
With the happy taste of the bread in our mouths, we tried to rescue the meal with dessert...
But dessert was a definite mistake. Overpriced ice-cream with a weird chocolate custard in-between.
Also, don't expect any kind of selection of white wine. There are 4 choices and one of them is...
Read moreI'm still dreaming of the house specialty pasta, mentioned by other reviewers - the pasta with ragu sauce that then gets tossed in a wheel of parmesan. My husband is very fussy about Italian food as his Italian grandmother taught him how to cook. He loved it! We should have had one to share, but we took half home to eat later. Even though we were full, the neighboring table told us to order the pistachio-amaretti icecream, also home made. We all ordered one scoop and the table fell silent as we passed into a state of supreme bliss. If you love pistachio, it's the best ice cream you'll ever taste. Don't miss it. The chef is quite a character, comes and talks to all the diners, and his wife is front of house and very good-natured. A great experience. Would go every week if I...
Read moreWe were a group of 9 people without a reservation but we were welcomed in a very friendly way. The Chef (and owner) with his wife and staff were very helpful and accommodating to our requests. The atmosphere was very nice getting a family and friends vibe. The food was very tasty with good portions and a great value for money. Tiramisu and ice cream for dessert and you can tell they were homemade as the taste was excellent. I definitely...
