I dined here with my wife a couple of months ago during our stay in Nice. First of all, the staff was very accommodating to the fact that I speak very little French and they were happy to speak English with us. The restaurant is beautiful with terrific ambiance. My wife ordered duck breast and I ordered their top cut of beef, we asked for them both to be medium-rare and the server said that we probably wouldn’t like it cooked that way. I simply said “preference de chef” and again he resisted and said he would tell the chef how we would like it cooked. When the dishes arrived, the duck was totally soulless, I asked him and he said it was cooked medium- well. My beef was cooked medium. This isn’t the way to serve fine cuisine, we were disappointed feeling that we received a different experience because we are American and the stereotype is that we like meat cooked to death (not true!) I believe that the staff was truly trying to be accommodating to us, but please cook it the way we ask for it.
When asking for a wine recommendation he explained to me that Bordeaux was fuller bodied and more tannic than Burgundy (I make Pinot Noir for a living), This is basic wine knowledge and every wine drinker knows this, it felt condescending. In the end he recommended a bottle of Mercurey that was excellent and we enjoyed it very much, I just wish our food was cooked properly.
I know that they probably must deal with many tourists who do not know a lot about fine dining and wine, but I have chosen this restaurant because of its reputation, if I knew nothing I would go to macdonalds. Please don’t assume that we want our food prepared differently than you do. At least they didn’t bring us ketchup and mustard for our salmon like we experienced at another restaurant!
The server was apologetic that we didn’t like the way our food was prepared and some aspects of the meal were still very nice. I would happily return to La Langouste for another meal, but I would hope that they cook It the way it should be regardless of who...
Read moreWe had dinner there a few days ago. The reservation was placed beforehand via Google. We got seated very quickly, but even though we had already ordered our drinks, we had to remind the waiters that we have been waiting for a while. Afterwards we waited for more than half an hour for the starter to arrive. The tuna tartare was delicious and very fresh. After this entrée, we had to wait for half an hour until the main dishes came. The truffle risotto and the lobster linguini. The truffle risotto was quite tasty, but not outstanding. The picture already speaks for itself. A very standard arrangement. The linguini was underseasoned, while the lobster didn’t seem to have any taste at all besides the natural lobster taste. The presentation was great, but that’s already it. For almost 50€ the flavor wasn’t on par with the value. For desert we had the soufflé which was delicious. Overall the food was quite mediocre. The worst part is that we had to wait so long just for our dishes to arrive. Meanwhile, other customers next our seats and in front of us which seemed to be wealthier and more extravagant had two waiters covering their table. It is absolutely unacceptable to prioritize customers due to their resources. We came in formally dressed and shouldn’t be disregarded just cause we weren’t dressed up in luxury articles. The waiters rarely even came in the direction of our table and didn't even glance at us. We had to call them in order to finally get their attention. The food can get a pass, but the service was simply horrible. I would not recommend this place, unless you‘re extremely posh and wealthy. If this place truly values its customers then it should accept this feedback and build upon it. A restaurant should treat all its customers the same way. One Michelin star is granted when the place is worth a stop. Unfortunately, this one isn't worth a stop yet. we could have been Michelin inspectors and would have been unimpressed by the food's flavor as well as the...
Read moreVery easy to book ahead as you can do it all online; convenient as we didn't need to speak to anyone (though the staff speaks perfect English). On arrival, we were promptly showed to our seats in the terrace at the back of restaurant...it felt romantic with the lights and temperate night. Was initially a bit concerned that being seated outdoors means having to deal with smoking customers...not sure what the policy here is but glad to see that there's no ashtrays readily on the tables. As the beautiful weather makes us really wanted to enjoy our meal outdoor as well but not wanting to have our palette spoiled by cigarette smoke.
We're offered some little appetizers and a salmon amuse bouche; it did well to whet our appetite. After noticing that every other table was served a bread basket, we asked for ours too as wanted to taste the olive oil. The olive oil is a good selection but the bread could be improved better; maybe if it's warm?
The starters of scallops carpaccio was absolutely amazing. I am so glad we decided to have a starter each to ourselves as my partner wanted the tuna starter to share initially. It tasted so sweet and fresh and was perfectly paired with it's accompaniments. While the tuna was really good as well, it paled in comparison to my scallop carpaccio 😋😍 Also thought the tuna dish presentation could be improved by drawing more attention to the tuna as it was rather buried down by the crispy vegetables.
The mains of veal with oyster mushrooms and truffles were so flavourful!!! Unsure what the purple potato-like texture actually is but it just paired perfectly with the rest of the dish. The gambas dish had really fresh and big prawns which were so succulent. Although it surprisingly unexpectedly has more of an Asian flair to it, it does has it's own special touch; making it pretty much of a fusion dish to me.
All dishes were of good sized portion too. Price is on the higher side but it's worth the great service and high quality...
