Les Dames Galantes — Restaurant in Nontron

Very nice dinner at Les Dames. I was hoping for mussels but they'd run out sadly. However, the cepes omelette I had as an alternative was great. My friend has the 29€ menu and said the fois gras and duck were very good. We both had the lemon tart which was spectacular. The lack of mussels and the rosé wine (which we thought could have been better) led to our 3 rating for food. Service and atmosphere very good - friendly smiley waitress - thus a 5 rating for both.

Based on our experience I'm surprised at some of the poor reviews. However, having walked past the restaurant several times over the last few days it's been very busy. I sense the staff might get a bit stressed/overwhelmed with all the customers which perhaps impacts customer service...

Awful food! I sent my fish back as it was like rubber and totally tasteless and bland. The owner argued with me that the fish was good, I disagreed. After some debate she offered that I took another dish for a supplement price! I refused and asked for the bill. She wanted to charge me 23 euros on a 29 euro menu just for an entree. I refused to pay 23 euros for an entree that was only 19 euros on the menu. She threatened me with the police! When we told her to go ahead and call them (as I had not eaten only tasted the fish) she backed down and reduced my bill by 10 euros. She then told me not to return, as if! Dreadful service from the owner, awful food and wine like vinegar....... Do yourself a favour, stay well away from this...

We (me and my wife) had to wait quite a while but that was indicated. Nice and hard working ladies. A beer (0.5 ltr) was not cold but lukewarm. It was 33 degrees C that day and it did cost 8 euros. Mussels were served but french fries were forgotten. I had to remind the waitress. We had to eat the mussels first and the fries at the end. Fries (about 14 pcs) were served without dressing or even salt. So, I had to take the salt from another table. When we arrived we were given water without ordering. At the end we had to pay for it. We left and ordered our desert elsewhere.

Strange restaurant. Maybe a bad day. But looking at the other reviews they have more bad days.
