Restaurant Côté Rivière — Restaurant in Nontron

Unfortunately, we didn’t have the great experience of other reviewers here. We were a party of 6 with a reservation (so not like we just sprang on them). When we arrived, the staff were clearly struggling to cope with the number of diners. We were not greeted and after waiting at the counter were finally pointed to our reserved table, We seated ourselves and waited 10-15 mins to be offered drinks and a food menu. Food was ok - Chicken Supreme, Duck; Pasta, Veal. Definitely not Michelin (as one reviewer suggested). Setting is lovely. Worth going just for a drink or a coffee but better restaurants out there. We have a holiday home in Brantôme and have been dining out in the village for 17 years. We had never tried this place before and won’t be back. Too many other good options elsewhere. Not surprisingly, the Côté Rivière is located immediately on the river in Brantome with outdoor seating with a wonderful view. We would have went for the atmosphere alone, but were also very impressed with our dinner. Each of the courses were phenomenal, with unique twists on the traditional fare of the region. We also enjoyed that the menu changed, and was written on a chalkboard, as the standard unchanging menus of some restaurants can come across as overly tourist focused. Our waitress was really great, spoke perfect English, and was very helpful with information and recommendations. My parents who live near Brantome had booked a lunch time table for the six of us, which included two young children. The restaurant is lovely and positioned on the riverside with tables overlooking the river.

The food was superb and when asked they did children’s portions on everything from the same menu. The atmosphere in the restaurant was perfect for us to be able to talk and the staff were very welcoming, friendly and on hand for our needs. The food was absolutely delicious. We all had three courses which were all presented beautifully, tasted great and nothing was left with all of us clearing our plates.
