Finding this cafe on a Monday morning was originally a beacon of hope to the start of this work week. The interior is well decorated and the presentation of the various pastries, teas, jams, coffee, and other products are very aesthetic. However, once we entered, we were met with a very cold countenance of the barista/owner. He did not acknowledge us or even say hello. We ordered cappucinos; yet, it is important to note that this cafe does not have plant-based milk for those of you who may be vegan or have a lactose-intolerance. The barista's response to us asking if he had alternatives to cow milk was that he only had "lait normal" which he said with a condescending smirk. It is telling that he would call cow milk as "normal," because we could feel the atmosphere of the cafe negatively changed after that. Normally, in Paris, the cost of a cappucino would be around 3.50⏠or 4⏠depending on where you go. Sometimes an extra .50⏠if you substitute cow milk with "lait vegetal." The cost of one cappucino here, with "lait normal" is 4.70⏠and if you take the coffee to-go, he does change an extra 1⏠(which you can get back if you bring the cup back... that is if you would even want to go back). The menu is not shown on purpose, I believe, because the prices are higher than they need to be. The cappucino itself was okay to taste. I believe they use KB Coffee Roasters which is a well known coffee roaster. If you want to actually drink coffee from KB, I recommend going to their actual cafe in the 9th or their other location known as Back in Black in the 11th. Also, you cannot use laptops in this cafe which is understandable in my opinion since the original purpose of a cafe culturally was to socialise or to generally not work. The dog in the cafe was friendlier than the owner. I personally would recommend you go to Nomade Cafe on the street over (minus on Mondays, because it is closed then). The baristas there are extremely kind, you can use your laptop there if you choose, and the coffee there is actually tastier. Otherwise, Mozzo Coffee was another nice cafe that was opened on Mondays, but it may...
Read moreAh. Where should I begin . First we were disappointed by the coffee themselves. Ordered one filter, one flat white, one espresso. They were mediocre for the first two and the espresso was just not it. I could just stop right there. But after reading so many negative comments, and judging from our own experience,I feel like needed to share a bit more of our thoughts abt this place because Iâm surprised that this place is still open.
One , the attitude .when we walked into the place , which looks quite nice to be faire, the owner didnât even say bonjour, as I was with my camera , thought heâd take me as a tourist, which wonât really justify whatâs gonna happen . first thing he said to us was: we donât allow people to stroll in the shop just like that . Charming . After explaining we wanted to sit down and have coffees, he leaded us to the table with the same attitude, it was so awkward and stressful. Even having this moment flashing back makes me cringe .
Two, the offer. When I asked for an oat flat white , the answer is : we donât do vegetarian milk. Ok as I was trying to be a good client I went with the cow milk, no problem, but as for the cakes âŠâŠâŠ.the had four different vegan almond cakes. Same shape , different flavors.(and they were so grassy as the certainty use a lot of vegetable oil to replace the butter), Iâm not approaching the monotone choices for vegan diet clients , itâs always good to have choices .Iâm approaching that il does not seem bother them to not have a plant based substitution for cow milk, but the they do offer 4 vegan cakes. Iâm so confused.
Three, allow me being mean a bit, I think the owner just hates people , really , thatâs the vibe I was getting , not only towards us, we saw how he teated other clients too. He made it very clear that he doesnât want them in his place . Iâve never been to a coffee place being so stressed and i be been to A LOT of them . The relief I felt when I walked out the door , was huge . Iâm not even...
Read moreOne of the worst services I've had in Paris, or anywhere else in the world really. Although I've been a regular to this coffee shop since 2019 and have recommended it to many, many of my friends, today was definitely the last day I'll ever set foot in this place. The two men working there are extremely rude. Several times they have interacted with me with less than the bare minimum politeness (ex. Not even acknowledging they heard my order when I say it, not looking at me when they speak to me) and today they basically kicked me out of their very empty coffeeshop because I wanted to sit on a high table in order to write on my notebook, instead of the tiny garden coffee table (knee-height) they insisted I should take. Reminder: the coffeeshop was basically empty. Their excuse was that Saturdays were usually busy (yet the café was empty at 90% of its capacity...), and that 'this is not a place to work': well sorry to break it down to you that people can write for OTHER reasons than work. When I told them I'd move without a problem when there would be a need for that, they insisted I had to change seats NOW or else they'd ask me to leave when the café would get full. Spoiler alert: it never got full. Even the three people that were there at the time left at the same time as me. I am infuriated by this behavior.
Like I was saying, I've been coming here since 2019 because the coffee is actually very good (although clearly too expensive), and eeeeverytime I show up they remind me computers are not allowed, although I've never used a computer there... is this some sort of discrimination or what is wrong with you? Basically: can't work, can't read on a kindle, can't write on a notebook, can't speak loud, can't choose the seat you want to choose.
Seriously Kabane, reconsider the dictatorial attitude you're having in your café. No coffee beans or tea leaves are amazing enough to forgive this kind of treatment. And please do remember that karma is a...
