If I could give this place no stars, I would. My husband and I used to come here on a semi-regular basis, but it had been a year or so since we'd last been. Service has gone downhill, food's gone downhill, there's nothing good about this past experience. Chef didn't seem to care, the pizzas weren't great, the server had no idea about any beers that were on the menu, and the mushrooms on my pizza tasted like they'd come from a tin. I wasn't planning on sending it back, but my husband said to say something. When we did, the manager came over and started arguing and getting aggressive about what I'd said. He said they were fresh mushrooms, but they cook them before putting them on the pizza which is why they taste the way they do (which could very well be the truth). But when I said I didn't like how they tasted, they didn't taste good, he yelled to the chef from across the room and asked him when they'd bought these mushrooms. The chef said this morning, then took a mushroom and ate it to prove they were fine. When I tried to explain that it wasn't that they'd gone bad, it's that they didn't taste good, and that we were letting them know as feedback, rather than getting something for free, he continued to be verbally aggressive. He started asking, well what about them isn't good? How don't they taste good? And when we'd finally had enough of him continuing to argue with us, we asked for the bill so we could leave even though my husband and our friend hadn't finished their food or their beers. But instead of getting the bill, he continued to stand there getting more hostile and argumentative. He started getting in my husband's face, and being extremely rude, harping on about how we weren't going to get anything for free even though that wasn't the point of any of this, still refusing to get the bill. The chef and the lady behind the bar finally had to come out and tell him to calm down and get us the bill, and after we'd paid, he proceeded to walk behind my husband and our friend like he was escorting us out, almost hoping we'd pick a fight outside.
None of us have ever been treated like that in a restaurant. Not here in Paris nor anywhere else. Absolutely horrendous service.
TLDR: This used to be a great place to have a pizza, but the quality of food and service are downright awful now. I can't recommend enough not to...
Read moreThere should be an option to award zero stars...I was here in June and the wait staff were extremely rude. If you care to read about what transpired, here it is... I was in the area on a video shoot, when some of us decided we were hungry. We went to Popine, on the recommendation of a friend. After spending some time waiting out front and being ignored by wait staff for 10 minutes, we were finally asked how many people were in our party. There was just three of us. They estimated a 20 minute wait, which was fine, and we put our name down. After 20 minutes, I managed to flag down the same waitress who put us on the wait list, to ask if it seemed like it might be a bit longer for a table. She was surprised to see us. She wandered to the back of the restaurant, asked who I can only assume was the manager about our table, and then returned to tell us she really didn't know how much longer it would be and that we could leave if we want. Yes we were a non-french-speaking group (I understand language barriers are real), and yes the restaurant was busy, but after seeing the wait staff interact with seated patrons of the restaurant, and juxtaposing that with our experience simply waiting for a table, it was very apparent that they didn't care to accommodate us. Just a warning to people of colour that are visiting or working in the area; this place might not be...
Read moreThe pizza was really good but I have a racism experience here. All staffs were very kind excepting a woman server. I went inside the restaurant and she asked me "One?" with dirty looks without saying hello or bonjour. And she brought a menu and threw it to my table! I was very embarrassed. I recognized the servers were super busy at that time so tried to understand it. But I think it was very rude. She smiled and talked much with French customers at other tables but she didn't come to my table and even she didn't keep eye contacts with me. I was waiting for a long time to order. Thankfully, I ordered to another server. It was my first day in France and I felt really bad. It was my first racism experience in Europe. The food was excellent and staffs were working hard but hopefully the restaurant will educate all staffs for foreign customers as well. Now I'm posting on my travel blog and it reminds me the experience. I won't recommend this restaurant to foreigners or non-French speakers. As a result, I appraise...
