The Apprentice — Restaurant in Pointe-à-Pitre

The Apprentice restaurant in Saint Francois has a lot of potential—it’s a nice spot with great food and very good service for most of the evening. However, the experience was completely overshadowed by the attitude of the other customers and the disappointing way we were treated by the staff at the end.

We were a group enjoying our evening, laughing and talking a bit louder than others, but certainly not disruptive. Despite this, other customers were glaring, rolling their eyes, and making us feel unwelcome, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere.

The final straw came when we wanted to order dessert and were abruptly told by the waitress that we had to leave because “there’s a reservation.” It was clear this wasn’t true—it felt like an excuse to get rid of us. If the restaurant prefers guests to whisper through dinner, they should set that expectation when people arrive, instead of allowing such a negative dynamic to develop.

Nombreux sont les restaurants sympas de St François malheureusement fermés le Dimanche midi. Raison pour laquelle nous nous sommes rabattus sur LES APPRENTIS que nous ne connaissions pas. Bien situé sur la Marina , avions réservé avant d’arriver ce qui permit au responsable d’établissement de nous garder une table en terrasse extérieure. Accueil sympathique. Mais très très grosse déception car épicurien d’origine lyonnaise, je m’étais laissé tenter par du foie de veau en précisant bien que je souhaitais une cuisson rosée. À ma grande surprise le foie était trop cuit . Je retournais le plat en cuisine sans difficulté en insistant bien sur mon souhait au niveau cuisson. La seconde assiette m’était apportée un peu plus tard, mais cette fois , l’une des tranches correspondait à une tranche mal débitée et traversée de nerfs et l’ensemble des deux morceaux manquait totalement de cuisson, la viande était crue. Le responsable de l’établissement aurait dû le voir au lieu de me demander si cela convenait. Je précise que l’ayant laissé dans l’assiette sans le manger, la serveuse qui débarrassa mon assiette en fin de repas me fit elle même remarquer que le foie n’était pas cuit et approuva ma désapprobation. Dans ces conditions je ne puis recommander ce restaurant car même un apprenti sérieux ne se serait certainement pas raté deux fois de suite sur la cuisson d’une tranche de foie de veau. Quant à la réaction du responsable de l’établissement m’indiquant que j’aurais du retourner mon assiette une nouvelle fois, j’en suis choqué car c’est inacceptable: il n’a qu’à embaucher du personnel compétent. Staff was friendly and food came fast. However, we ordered a bottle of water that never came. I had the langouste linguine which was very good but missed a pinch of salt. My friend had the steak, she received it medium despite asking for medium rare and the overall taste was a lil blend.
