Café de la Poste — Restaurant in Rouen

IN RESPONSE TO THE OWNER I returned an almost complete plate of disgusting food. I could not have eaten 3/4 of the plate I was served. We have just enjoyed real Normandy food and cooking in Naufchattel de Bray without any problems. As for making a scene, three women screeching at my husband is causing a scene when he challenged the bill and accepted your offer to call the police and you backtracked.

ORIGINAL REVIEW Our server was wonderful, kind and helpful. We arrived at 8pm and the restaurant was empty and so we were able to choose a table, and a water bowl was kindly given for our dog

The food was a mixed bag, the starter of chicken Cesar salad was "interesting": a cold, precooked breaded chicken burger (the cheap sort) sliced and presented atop the salad leaves and no parmesan on the plate - the salad leaves were fresh and plentiful.

The camembert starter appeared and tasted like Thai fishcake balls - I think the cook got the bag from the freezer mixed up or there was a serious problem with their quality. The burrata and tomato salad was great - a well sliced tomato with good flavour complimented the Lidl mozzarella ball well.

For our main courses, the salmon tagliatelle with leeks arrived fresh from the microwave hot: it had no flavour of leeks, the overcooked tagliatelle soaked up all the bland cream sauce in a flavourless, claggy mush, with unevenly torn/cheap ends of badly smoked salmon thrown across the top, and (flavour free) parmesan powder scattered around the edge, it wasn't appealing and after a couple of trial and error mouthfuls, we asked for it to be returned to the kitchen. The menu didn't mention the salmon was smoked. The cod was clearly out of a box, in an unnatural triangle of fillet of "cod" but after a taste I suspected a cheaper white fish however it was enjoyed well enough, and the burger was incredibly good! Fries were dark brown yet still soggy; clearly the wrong variety of potatoes or very old ones in use.

At the end of the meal, the salmon dish was still on the bill and the owner and what appeared to be sisters acting as managers refused to remove it, forcing my husbands credit card out of his hand and swiping it for payment.

We found a big piece of plastic in our salad(!). They said they were ‘really sorry’ and admitted it came from the mozzarella package, but they didn’t want to take our €15 salad off the bill. Offcourse I am not going to eat any more once I find plastic, so I stopped immediately and waited to get an answer or a new salad to come. But nothing happened. Once we wanted to pay they gave us the whole bill. After we protested, they said I ate most of it so they only offered discount of €4 instead. Great food, great service, and a great view!

Stopped by this lovely little restaurant while visiting Normandy. I sat at one of the window seats which offered a great view of the Seine. My friend and I had the beef moussaka which we both really enjoyed. The staff was very helpful and friendly which made for a pleasant experience. Definitely stop by if you find yourself...
