We actually only ended up here because of a glitch at the place we thought we were going to stay - but it was a stroke of good luck. La Ferme is a beautiful little lodge in the charming town of Villedieu, and easily walkable to everything in the village center. The room was large and comfortable, with windows opening up on to the lawn and trees. We had dinner at the restaurant on the patio, which in the French August was perfect. The service was outstanding, primarily the Madame who worked both at the front desk and at the restaurant (unfortunately, I cannot recall her name.) She was friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and graciously let me practice my only OK French with her, and laughed with us when I made a particularly egregious mistake. She also provided us valuable advice on our trip to Mont St. Michel, and when in the day we should go. Finally, they have a very pleasant grounds, and they turned off the yard lights for us so we could lie in the grass and watch a meteor shower late at night. The set menus are superb, very reasonably priced, the service is impeccable, efficient, friendly and unobtrusive, and the surroundings (with a huge sloping lawn just beyond the dining room) are very agreeable. The only problem is that it isn't open every day for dinner - just Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I've never stayed there, because I have a house in town, but if the staff welcome to overnight guests is as warm as it is to dinner visitors, you are sure of a very pleasant stay. It's only a short walk to 'centre ville' - the hotel is on the Granville road - but it only has a small sign outside it and you have to look carefully.
