Went two meals in a row. The seafood platter looked too tempting we had to come back. We ordered the 35€ seafood platter with about 10 whelks (the best we have had anywhere including ones from the same restaurant row) and one huge crab and 4-6 oysters and some shrimps among other little seafood things. Totally worth it for the freshest seafood we have had! We also had the menu for 14€ (entree + plat) and 16€ (entree + plat + dessert) and got the local grilled fish which was great. The appetizers we had were the seafood soup and the 6 oysters. Good but nothing to write home about. Dessert of chocolate mousse was very enjoyable. Great value and fresh seafood. Would highly recommend and worth the 45 min drive from St Malo for us!!!

Als Vorspeise genossen wir die frischen Muscheln, die zart und aromatisch zubereitet waren – ein wahrer Genuss für den Gaumen. Das Hauptgericht, das Steak am Spieß, erwies sich als Meisterwerk der Zubereitung. Perfekt gegart, saftig und mit einer verlockenden Grillnote versehen, übertraf es unsere Erwartungen bei Weitem. Auch das Dessert, der Crêpe, bildete einen köstlichen Abschluss des Mahls. Luftig, leicht und mit der richtigen Portion Süße versehen, ließ er uns mit einem zufriedenen Gefühl zurück. Besonders erwähnenswert ist das leckere Brot mit Butter, das zu Beginn serviert wurde und unsere Vorfreude auf das folgende Menü noch steigerte. Das freundliche Personal im A Contre Courant trug maßgeblich zu unserem gelungenen Abend bei. Trotz des offensichtlichen Betriebs bemühten sie sich nach Kräften, uns einen angenehmen Besuch zu ermöglichen. Ihr herzlicher Service und ihre Freude an der Arbeit waren spürbar und sorgten für eine angenehme Atmosphäre. Eine weitere lobenswerte Eigenschaft des Restaurants ist ihr Engagement, die Sprachbarriere zu überwinden. Obwohl unsere Französischkenntnisse begrenzt waren, nahmen sie sich die Zeit, uns das Menü und die Empfehlungen verständlich zu erläutern. Wir empfehlen zukünftigen Gästen eine rechtzeitige Reservierung, da das Restaurant aufgrund seiner Beliebtheit schnell ausgebucht sein kann. Alles in allem hatten wir einen wundervollen Abend im Restaurant A Contre Courant und freuen uns schon jetzt darauf, bald wiederzukommen. Wer auf der Suche nach einer gelungenen Kombination aus exquisitem Essen, gutem Service und einer herzlichen Atmosphäre ist, wird hier definitiv nicht enttäuscht werden!

During a weekend in Cancale , a friend of mine recommended me this place. So, we called to book a table , at 21h we were at the restaurant, it was an amazing experience since de beginning. The people were really friendly . We ordered a “seafood dish” for 4 people ! , we were astonished. Quality of the food was grate and prices are aligned with. If you want to spend a nice moment eating delicious food, this is the place to come :) !

We had an amazing lunch at A Contre Courant in Cancale. Even though we hadn’t booked and the restaurant was packed, the staff went out of their way to find us a table. Their friendliness and attentiveness throughout the meal truly went above and beyond. We ordered the spider crab and lobster, and everything was delicious. When our waitress tied cloths around our necks, we laughed, but soon realized it was for a good reason. She also noticed our curiosity about whelks and brought us a taste, showing us exactly how to enjoy them. Another team member helped us with the crab, guiding us patiently as it was our first time. The staff made the whole experience unforgettable, and we can’t recommend this...

A gem of a place in one of the most beautiful locations. We visited twice for dinner and sat beside the Loire watching magnificent sunsets and listening to the frog chorus from the reeds. The website for A Contre Courrant is modest and it would be easy to let it fly under the radar. But their food and hospitality is really worth a stop. The menu changes regularly to match what’s available in the market. It reflects excellent French cooking, Loire specialities and a delightful influence from the Caribbean.
