Oyster Club — Restaurant in Saint-Malo

Several menu items were unavailable (understandable since it’s meant to be fresh and locally-sourced). Service was questionable: after we placed our order it was maybe 15 minutes before we even got our drinks, and there were at most 10 covers at the time. A mound of smoked salmon was absolutely unexceptional, of the same quality as what you’d find in a supermarket, with a desultory squeeze of lemon and buried in capers, no other seasoning. Cold sardines were small and rather sad-looking on their plates of oil with a shower of onion. No condiments, as if they don’t trust you to season your food right. Took quite a while to bring out bread (the only thing accompanying the fish) and when they did it was stale. Given the prices (nearly €40 before drinks for 3 small dishes) the quality was not great. This place is amazing. Fresh, innovative local food and lovely wines to complement them. But the people who run the place are even better - some of the nicest, most welcoming people it's ever been my pleasure to meet. We arrived on our bikes late after a long ride and they kept the kitchen open so we could relax and have something to eat. They couldn't have been more charming. Nice place, friendly staff and the food is good.

This place is not a restaurant in my view. It's more like a tapas place where you go with friends and have a few small dishes, which is fine but we were expecting something else. Furthermore, the place is understaffed. We had to wait ages for our food to arrive. I would recommend to the owner to hire 1 more person to serve the guests because 2 people (chef included)...
