Two of us enjoyed an outstanding meal at this Toulon gem. AOC 41 is tucked into the corner a neighborhood square with most of the diners seated outdoors under umbrellas and awnings and surrounded by trees. We were served by one of the co-owners whose husband is the chef. Service was attentive and informed with excellent recommendations on the menu and wine list. Our entrees were the Friture de petite poisons, a tiny fried local fish served with sauce tartare and the Burrata de chevre, a soft creamy cheese round served with a rich pesto. Both were very tasty and subtle. Our main courses were the Les belles tentacules de Poulet (Octopus) and the menu special item Joue de bouf Black Angus confite served with tagliatelle. The octopus was accompanied by fried polenta soaked in squid ink, a textured and sensory addition to the grilled tentacles that were beautifully tender. The beef dish (marinaded for 48 hours in a wine sauce) was served in a rich mushroom sauce. The beef, like the octopus was extremely tender and tasty, the chef having been careful to prepare well and not overcome. We chose an organic Grenache / Syrah blended red wine to accompany the meal. While a little tart on opening it settled with some air and was an excellent accompaniment for two diverse but rich dishes. The meal was rounded off with an unusual Creme brûlée flavored with hazelnut and almonds. AOC 41 (from Appellation d’Origine Controlee the French wine standards system and 41 being the restaurant’s street number) is highly recommended for its atmosphere, service and...

Read moreWe had an excellent meal; my turbot was perfectly cooked. The service is as it should be, attentive but not intrusive, and the prices reasonable for the quality of the cuisine. The atmosphere is without pretence but rather relaxed and convivial. It was my birthday so they charmingly added a sparkler to my dessert. An excellent choice for dining in Toulon. I speak French but my spouse does not, and it turned out that the staff spoke perfect English. I highly recommend AOC 41, in the lovely Toulon neighbourhood of...
