Fair warning to American tourists: Andouille Sausage in Vire, Normandy, France, can NOT be mistaken for Louisiana Cajun Andouille! The latter is similar to a spicy kielbasa and makes outstanding jambalaya. The Vire version is made with folder pig stomach, offal, and the small intestine.

I cannot tell you if it was spiced or smoked, because I never got beyond the SMELL! As the kitchen door was opened to deliver our meal (the specialty of the house and apparently much sought after), we were hit with the horrendous smell of raw sewage. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that the problem did not originate from the plumbing but from our plate. 🤢 We were informed that their recipe had won several awards and that many considered the "rustic aroma" to be the sign of the best Andouille.

So, I have to assume that the food was excellent for those that knew what to expect and were able to get past the nausea.

Dessert was to die for! Vive la...

I picked this place after visiting Omaha Beach earlier on the day. It was time to get a taste of finer local food. Ambiance is relaxed, intimate, staff is very zealous. We tasted a wine of cidre bouchee, a kir normand and a local red wine in a pitcher. For food, foie gras terrine de viande en gelee, salmon wasabi, smoked pork butt medallion with cider sauce, daurade grillee, tarte normande and creme brulee. How good? Very good, great attention to details from the kitchen. It may not be zee best of place for a novice in the culinary world but for someone with an educated palate it is a reat treat and it's affordable. 26 to 36 euros for dinner prix fixe. C etait tres bon! This place is listed in better restaurants,...
