**Restaurant Critique: Maisi Restaurant in Kazbegi, Georgia** Maisi Restaurant in Kazbegi, Georgia, offers a culinary experience that tantalizes the senses with its inventive dishes and elegant presentation. During my recent visit, two dishes stood out, demonstrating the restaurant's commitment to quality and creativity. **Dish 1: Creamy Soup with Grated Cheese and Spices** The first dish, a creamy soup topped generously with grated cheese and a sprinkling of spices, is a delightful starter that sets the tone for the meal. The soup's consistency is perfect, with a velvety texture that is both comforting and luxurious. The grated cheese adds a rich, savory note, enhancing the overall flavor profile. The hint of spices provides a subtle kick, balancing the creaminess and adding depth to each spoonful. The presentation is simple yet inviting, with the cheese and spices beautifully layered on top, making it visually appealing and immediately appetizing. **Dish 2: Vegetable Fritters with Crispy Garnish** The second dish, vegetable fritters adorned with a crispy garnish, showcases Maisi's ability to turn simple ingredients into a masterpiece. The fritters are expertly cooked, with a golden-brown exterior that is crispy and a soft, flavorful interior. The use of fresh, local vegetables is evident in the vibrant taste and texture. The crispy garnish on top adds a delightful crunch, contrasting nicely with the soft fritters. This dish is not only a treat for the taste buds but also a feast for the eyes, presented with a touch of elegance and sophistication. **Overall Experience** Maisi Restaurant in Kazbegi, Georgia, impresses with its dedication to using high-quality ingredients and its skillful execution of dishes. The ambiance of the restaurant complements the dining experience, offering a cozy yet refined atmosphere perfect for both casual and special occasions. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall dining experience with their excellent service. In conclusion, Maisi Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone in Kazbegi looking to indulge in a memorable culinary journey. The dishes are a testament to the chef's creativity and expertise, making it a standout dining destination in the region.

Since the day Maisi opened, it has become one of my top locations to go to with a marvelous view. I highly recommend this place to everyone as it provides its customers with tasteful music, excellent food and good service with a friendly atmosphere. Tasty breakfast and even better dinner, an amazing choice of tasty items with plenty of options in general which is why my vegetarian friend was also very satisfied. Food is made in front of you, how exciting? The menu was creative including traditional Georgian dishes with a twist and nice European dishes as well. They have affordable prices that meet customer demands and expectations. For must-tries, I would suggest not to miss Riccota dips, Hot peach salad with Racha ham, Tolma in veal leaf, and of course the Qada cake. All I could say is - everything was beyond expectations. Each time we went in, whether, for a drink or a full meal, we had a great experience with the staff. In fact, a few times they went out of their way to help us with an odd request: we wanted to get a tour or a car to drive us around Kazbegi and see the sightseeings and they helped us to find these services without any hesitation and with a smile on their faces. You can’t help marvel as you enter and smile as you leave :)

Despite its claim to be a chef-driven restaurant, this establishment falls short in both food quality and service. The high prices do not reflect the mediocre offerings. We ordered focaccia, frites, beef cheek risotto, and grilled chicken. The frites were good, and the focaccia was acceptable but slightly dry. However, the beef cheek risotto was disappointing and poorly executed, not resembling a true risotto. The grilled chicken was equally lackluster—dry, with a sauce and side bread that felt mismatched. Beyond the food, the service was unwelcoming. Our waiter was unpleasant, acting condescending and visibly annoyed by simple requests like ice for water or salt for the table. With food of this caliber, there's little to boast about. Given its 4.8-star rating, this restaurant is a mystery. As frequent diners at chef-driven restaurants worldwide, we found this one far below par. Instead, I recommend Samani restaurant nearby for excellent food, fair prices, and truly welcoming service.

Maisi Cafe, Kazbegi - A Tourist's Perspective Initial Impressions & Expectations:

Maisi Cafe came highly recommended, appearing to be a top choice for many visitors to Kazbegi. Despite its location requiring a 2 km hike from the main city, the promise of a great dining experience made the journey seem worthwhile, especially for an evening dinner.

The Experience:

My visit on a Thursday evening around 8:30 PM, a typical weekday, unfortunately did not meet these high expectations. It's particularly disappointing given that it was a weekday and not even peak season, suggesting the cafe struggles even with a relatively small crowd.

Seating & Crowd Management: The most significant issue encountered was the severe lack of adequate seating. Despite what appeared to be a spacious venue, the cafe seemed ill-equipped to handle the evening crowd. We waited for a good 30-40 minutes hoping to get a seat for dinner.

Staff & Service: The staff were polite and accommodating, managing to find a makeshift seat somewhere in an alley. However, it was explicitly stated that only drinks could be served in this area, which was a disappointment for someone planning a dinner.

Wait Times & Flexibility: While waiting for our coffee, it began to rain. More concerning was the lack of proactive hospitality; even with visibly empty seats indoors, no offer was extended to move from the exposed alley seating. This oversight led to an uncomfortable experience and ultimately, an early departure.

Ambiance & Comfort: The outdoor "alley" seating was not ideal, and the presence of mosquitoes was noticeable, detracting from the overall comfort.

Food & Drink: Regrettably, I was unable to sample the food due to the seating restrictions. The bumble coffee, which was the only item consumed, was described as "just okay."

Overall Suggestion: For fellow tourists, especially those with limited time and specific expectations for hospitality after traveling, it's advisable to manage expectations when visiting Maisi Cafe. While the staff were polite, the cafe's capacity for managing crowds and providing a comfortable, full-service experience, particularly during what should be quieter times or unexpected weather, appears to be a significant challenge. One can only imagine the situation on weekends or during actual peak season.

It might be best approached as a casual stop for a quick drink if you're in the immediate vicinity, rather than a destination for a...

Wow, what an amazing surprise! We spent only 4 days in Georgia yet with a variety of dining experiences, but Maisi Restaurant was by far the best. Tucked away up the hill, it’s a bit of a hidden gem and relatively small, which adds to its charm.

We first visited during the day to check it out and returned for dinner later. In the evening, the atmosphere was magical - soft candlelight, a cozy and relaxed vibe, and a young, friendly team that made us feel instantly welcome. The waitresses spoke excellent English, patiently answered our questions, and gave great recommendations.

We ordered the Nice Leaves kale salad (super fresh and flavorful), the fried chicken dish, and the beef cheek risotto. Every single bite was creative and delicious. I also tried the potato fritters - like French fries but with an authentic twist. I usually avoid fried foods, but these were incredible: perfectly salted, served with tasty sauces. The chicken was lightly fried, then finished on the grill, giving it a slightly crispy, smoky exterior while keeping the meat tender. The mildly spicy glaze paired beautifully with the walnut cream - simply perfect.

For dessert (which I almost never order), we shared a red berry and rosehip purée with red wine sorbet, white chocolate mousse, and a honey–nut crunch. I don’t even like white chocolate normally, but this was extraordinary; balanced between sweet, tangy, fruity, and crunchy. Probably the best dessert I’ve ever had.

The chefs and staff are young, talented, and clearly put their hearts into the food and the restaurant. Prices are higher than average for the area, but for this level of quality, they are more than fair it’s absolutely worth it.

Thank you, Maisi Team, for the experience and the warm welcome. I only wish we had discovered you earlier in our trip so we could have...
