Theatercafé — Restaurant in Altenburg

To the people that don't speak English: I am sorry but my German is not good enough for me to able to describe this properly. I hope translate does a good job out of giving you most of my review.

We made a reservation a few days ago and I'm really happy we did cause the place was full. As we arrived we were asked for our COVID certificates and the shown to our table. The place is rather dim lighted and gives relaxing and intimate vibes. The design inside is quite minimal so I really liked that.

A waitress came and brought us the menus. After a few minutes of looking through it we decided on what we'd like to eat so we ordered. We started with a small antipasti plate and a melon bruschetta. As they arrived we were impressed to see two plates that seemed rather crowded and full but it was nothing like that. I'd rather compliment the kitchen staff for doing a nice plating and giving great volume to the dishes.

The antipasti plate had a couple of components that are not anywhere close to something I'd ever eat: rucola and artichokes. I never thought I'd say this but Rucola tasted like food and not like some grass that was run over by a herd of sheep. The artichokes were pickled and a very pleasant surprise to my taste. The Melon bruschetta could only be described so: O M G! Biting into the whole of it felt more like eating honey and not a fruit. We've had a quite disappointing experience not so long ago with another Melon bruschetta where the melon was bland and tasteless. This was nothing like it.

As the waitress noticed that we were done with our meal she took our plates and a couple of minutes later brought us our main dishes. I went for a ribeye (I went for the steak since I was told by somebody earlier in the day that the steak here is the best) with truffle fries and a pepper sauce and my partner went for a Nic Burger. I can only agree that the steak was indeed amazing and the sides (fries and pepper sauce) were nice additions to it. My partner said the same thing about her burger. Since she was half full from the starters she only made it halfway through the burger but we were able to have it packed as takeaway.

Wir waren sehr enttäuscht. Schlechter Service und enttäuscht vom Essen 😢 Es fing schon mit der Reservierung (4Pers.) an. Am Telefon wurde gesagt es gibt nur noch drinnen Plätze, passt mir sehr gut, sagte ich. Als wir ankamen ("unerwartetes" Regenwetter) gab es plötzlich nur noch draußen Plätze, wir könnten auch eine Decke haben. Bitter kalt und ohne Jacke... Ich protestierte und wir wurden dann tatsächlich rein gesetzt. Danke dafür. Das Theatercafé wurde renoviert bzw umgestaltet oder erneuert... Wie man es denn sehen möchte, auch die Speisekarte bekam eine Überarbeitung. Für UNSEREN Geschmack, zu kalt, zu dunkel und die Karte hat nix mehr von einem Steakhaus. Lediglich 4 Steakgerichte, der Rest sind Pizza und Burger usw. Wir liebten die Bruscetta mit Knobi, die gibt es nur noch auf trockenem hartem dunklen Brot ohne Knobi.. Geht gar nicht! Das 30 € Steak war zäh, der Cesar Salat mit Hühnchen für 11€ (besteht hier NUR aus Römersalat Blättern mit Dressing.. Und Hühnchen) hat mich ebenfalls sehr ernüchtert. Die Mädels von Personal waren alle sehr nett, aber sehr lange Wartezeiten bis man etwas bestellen kann und auch bis man etwas bekommt. Keine Umsichtigkeit, sprich wenn die Nachbartische bedient werden, wird sich nicht mal umgeschaut, es war dann soweit, dass ich nach dem Personal rief das man zum Tisch kam. Bei einem Besuch in Altenburg gehört der Gang ins Theatercafe mittlerweile zum Pflichtprogramm.

Wir waren nun schon öfter dort essen und waren noch nie enttäuscht.

Das Ambiente ist sehr gemütlich und lädt zum verweilen ein. Ein super Ort um einen gemütlichen Abend mit einem guten Wein ausklingen zu lassen. An dieser Stelle sei direkt die tolle neue Weinkarte erwähnt, die wohl keine Wünsche offen lässt. Zu dieser Karte gibt es natürlich auch eine passende Beratung, die keine Fragen mehr offen lässt. Ich glaube hier findet jeder den passenden Wein für sich.

Die Bedienung ist stets freundlich und sehr aufmerksam, ohne dabei je aufdringlich zu wirken. Auch hier wird man zu fragen bezüglich der Speisekarte sehr gut beraten.

Das Essen ist sehr schmackhaft und von besonders guter Qualität. Eine Qualität, die in Altenburg ihresgleichen vergeblich sucht.

Am Wochenende sollte ein Tisch auf jeden Fall im Voraus reserviert werden, da das Theatercafe an diesen Tagen sehr gut besucht ist.
