Bäckerei Backfee — Restaurant in Berlin

I happened upon Bäckerei Backfee on a cold Sunday morning in February. My wife and I were killing time before a free organ concert at the local Catholic church, and we were also mighty hungry. Imagine our delight in finding a place that served a real breakfast of eggs, bacon, etc., and for a mere five euros! Besides breakfast, Bäckerei Backfee has an amazing selection of pastries and sandwiches. And, since I've been there a dozen times since February, I know it's the perfect place to meet friends and take visitors from out of town. Clearly, the people in the neighborhood feel the same way: I've been there at different times of the day and have seen everyone from old people to hipsters to construction workers frequenting it. Normally I don’t write negative reviews. But, my son said that I should write a review so that other parents know this is not a small-children friendly place. We ordered muffins. After they were packaged, I asked if it would be OK if we ate inside. The baker said next time please be sure to let him know so he doesn’t pack them in a to go bag. While we were eating, he came by and pointed at the crumbs on the floor and said, “this is why you need to use a plate.” After I cleaned up our trash, he also followed me out the door to complain about my mess. My usual MO is I am a good tipper to compensate for my three kids’ poor mouth aim. Like all small children they make messes and I try to compensate accordingly. In light of the recent lovely renovations, apparently the attitude of the staff also went through a change! Formally grumpy employees are pleasant to deal with, the coffee is delicious, the standard baked goods and breads are mostly better than buying from a supermarket (although I am unsure as to whether they bake in-house) and their opening and closing hours are very generous to account for full time working people.
