Le Brot — Restaurant in Berlin

This is an excellent new bakery by day come wine bar in the evening. They opened a couple of months ago and as we walk past daily on our commute thought it only pertinent to check it out. Great customer service, the bread is phenomenal and they have years of wine experience. Regularly hold jazz and other music evenings as well as wine tastings paired with cheeses to delight the taste buds. Their coffee blend is perfect for the morning rush and they're more than happy to fill your own mug if like me, you are doing your bit for the planet to reduce waste. Great Wi-Fi too, I spent several hours working here the other day. They have a great space so you can relax through the back on a comfy sofa and for a moment get away from the hype of the busy bustling streets of Neukölln and relax with a quirky board game or good book. I came here on a Saturday morning to pick up a walnut bread, a baguette (campagne), a croissant, and a pain au chocolat. The interior is nice and cosy, the staff is quick and friendly, albeit a bit confused (maybe a new staff member?). I really loved the taste of the walnut bread, the crust is crispy and the interior moist. I did not care for the baguette though, as it tasted bland. The croissant and pain au chocolate were, for Berlin standard, good and well above average. However, the name "Le Brot" suggests a comparison to bakeries in France, and as we've just come back from Paris, I'd have to say that the taste and textures of the products that I bought were mere average. Used to be hands down the best croissant, pain au chocolat, baguette of Berlin and beyond as far as I'm concerned. Even though the service was a little slow they were super friendly and authentically French. All this: used to be. When I returned some days ago, I realized quite a few changes: Croissants and pains au chocolat were all under-baked. Tried one and the fluffiness of previous experiences was gone. Coffee was bad as well and the service generic. Only constant thing was the over average pricing that does not match the products anymore it seems. What happened? I am clueless...
