Before you ask, yes, the restaurant is decorated as opulently as it appears on the pictures. In fact, this is the first time I have used the word opulent to describe something.
Apart from the interior design, which somehow manages to be tasteful and not one bit tacky, Osmanya is a great restaurant. It was my first time coming here (I came across this place when I was looking for restaurants that serve my favorite dish, Mantı).
What set apart Osmanya from other Turkish restaurants, which are plentiful in a city like Berlin, is the fact that they managed to sort of combine Turkish and German dining culture.
You feel comfortable, at home. The staff is kind and friendly. As a result, you feel inclined to stay and enjoy the food. The menu will make any Turkish person's mouth water and if you aren't sure about an item on the menu the waiter will gladly explain it to you or help you find something you'll like. The food tastes more homemade than I expected from a restaurant of this caliber.
On the other hand, the food came quick, no fussing around looking for a waiter, everything was clean, and most importantly it felt like a nice calm place to be.
These two qualities, good Turkish food and an actually decent restaurant as such, rarely come together. Osmanya is not only a great, delicious, fancy place to eat – it's also proof that combining and learning from other cultures can create...
Read moreGood food, questionable service. Come here if you're close by and if you are willing to dispute the bill if you're overcharged. 1. Great racks of lamb. 2. Great meat dumplings. 3. Was overcharged for aperol spritz by 2 euros but my friend was in a hurry - I wasn't sure, but I took a picture of the specials as we were leaving. 4. Cute outdoor garden seating, but remember people smoke more in Europe. 5. This was the first restaurant in Germany I've been to where they didn't have the credit card reader out. Even when we gave cash, they took the cash inside instead of making change at the table. So either bring cash and make a note of what you hand over or maybe pay inside where you can keep an eye on your card. 6. 50/50 on service - the younger woman with lips that looked like they'd been injected wasn't great, but the other server...
Read moreThis place is as opulent as it can get without being tacky. The atmosphere was nice and laid back. The one thing we didn’t like was the waitress. She was unfriendly, annoyed with us because we didn’t have a reservation. As we told her that we did, in fact call to make one hours prior and we were told to just stop by, that they’ll have a table for us, she just ignored us and walked away. We were appointed to a table with the words “ you could sit here first “. After that, it was just annoyed face all through dinner so we just eat and got out of there and continued our evening somewhere else. We avoided this place after that even if the...
