We were here for the goose as we heard before that it is good but we were very disappointed. We had a reservation which you need for this time of year here, the atmosphere is nice but kinda falling apart, the lamps were barely hanging of the wall and flickered if you leaned back. For food we all had the goose and after a while it came, the waiting time wasn't to bad but it wasn't short. We all got 3 potato dumplings and a bit of red cabbage, the dumplings were good but small and the red cabbage was only ok. Now the goose, it was definitely disappointing, the crust was good but everything tasted and smelled like a weird smoke, I don't really know how to explain it, almost like cigar smoke. After we told the waitress she went to the kitchen and said she'd come back... Which she didn't. In the end it was rather disappointing and we didn't get any discount on the bad goose and it was...

A restaurant with good home cooking in the center of Bad Godesberg. It is one of the places where politicians and diplomats from the Bonn Republic used to meet. The decor is traditional, the ambience pleasantly calm and perfect for good conversations while eating. The menu offers traditional German dishes but also salads, pasta, etc. The prices are ok, the staff very friendly. The food of good quality. Unfortunately, one of the dishes was too salty, but it was exchanged immediately. The second time it still was a little too salty (and we tend to eat spicy and relatively salty!). Mit wenigen Erwartungen sind wir im April 2024 ins "Maternus" gegangen. Aber dann: Wow! Ich kann selbst gut kochen und bin kulinarisch verwöhnt. Wir waren als Gruppe zu fünft dort. Ich hatte das Wiener Schnitzel. Die Portion war für 25,50 Euro nicht riesig, aber ich bin nicht nur satt geworden, sondern das beste Wiener Schnitzel meines Lebens habe ich hier gegessen: Das Fleisch butterzart, die Panade gerade noch fest, aber im Mund zergehend. Selbst im "Einstein" in Berlin oder im Café Mozart in Wien habe ich kein besseres Wiener Schnitzel gegessen. Auch die Dekoration war super: Ein Anchovis-Röllchen mit kleinen Kapern, ein Kapernapfel und natürlich Zitrone. Wie es sich gehört, war der Kartoffelsalat delikat abgeschmeckt, und es gab natürlich Preiselbeeren. Alles so nicht mehr selbstverständlich! Zwei aus unserer Gruppe hatten Züricher Geschnetzeltes, und auch hier gab es viel Lob. Auch die zwei Pasta-Gerichte kamen sehr gut an. Als Dessert hatte ich den Maternus Eisbecher - ein bisschen Retro, aber sehr lecker! Die Weinkarte ist gut zusammengestellt. Die Preise finde ich angemessen; das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt im "Maternus". Die Atmosphäre vermittelt wie früher gediegene, bürgerliche Behaglichkeit, mit sehr schöner, jazziger Hintergrundmusik. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Alles in allem in jeder Hinsicht ein schönes Erlebnis!
