I'm trying to be quite honest with the review and this will make more sense if you are from the indian subcontinent.
Firstly, for people who want to know about the food, it's okay you can visit here for the good taste of the food. The curries were normal nothing too special but tandoori chicken was very well made. The two stars are only for the food being served here and I had to take away three stars solely for the service and treatment by the staff. There seems to be subtle racism to the people of their same ethnicity. Now I'll describe everything that happened with us and as a reader you decide what it means to you.
So here it goes, we planned to have our evening meal here since it's near to the dresden main station and we had 2 hours to catch our train so this seems like a valid option. We were greeted in hindi when we entered and even though we knew less we tried to communicate in hindi. They asked us if we have a reservation and we didn't have one, it is summer so there is enough sun in the evening too. We were not asked if we would like to sit anywhere but were just taken to a corner where there is sun hitting on you're head with no cover on top (even though most of the restaurant was empty and we could only see people on two tables). We politely asked if we can sit at another place and they agreed, so felt a little awkward here but it's fine we did not judge. We then planned to order soon since we had to catch the train, when asked a few questions about the dishes the waiter gave answers in a way as if it was too obvious and we were being stupid (spoke everything keeping a smile). We tried to customize our orders a little but the waiter politely refused to do so by saying that they cannot give us anything other than in the menu, so we did understand and kept the order simple. Our orders were not too special to take very long to prepare except for the tandoori chicken which does take time normally and is understandable. People who came after us were being served with main courses before us. So we respectfully tried to explain our situation and asked if we can have our food a little early. The waiter seemed a little disturbed but still calmly told us that he would try to get the food soon. They did take a little time and we waited a little patiently discussing that we would eat as fast as possible and leave soon. The food was served and we did finish it on time eating at a faster pace than normal. Everything seemed a little awkward but was okay, until the waiter came to clean up the table and started complaining about how the other day there was another group of Indians who visited them and started bashing them about how they behaved (all I understand from his story was that they asked for a take away and then later decided to have the meal there, well who knows what the situation was) and he continued to start saying that we were also behaving the same way by forcing them to make our meal fast and that we would be unhappy if it came uncooked. All they had to do was get the food which can be prepared fast and get the dish that takes time (just one dish) a little later and which is what we expected too. And he continued in a rude tone saying "Jaldi jaldi jaldi, kya jaldi. Kyu tum log aise karthe ho. Aur tum log bathathe bhi nahi ho ki khana achcha tha" (directly translating to "Fast fast fast, what fast. Why do you guys do this. And you guys don't even try to say that the food was good"). At this moment my friends were using the washroom and I was alone at the table and did not know what to say. We then left and later got me thinking that it wasn't so nice about how we were treated as compared to others (the people from the other tables, there were 3-4 more groups that came after us) and we were the only Indians at the restaurant at that time. All I want to say is why can't people treat everyone the same, I couldn't understand this sort of discrimination. I'm sorry but I did not like this part of the visit to this place and would not be...
Read moreGanesha Indisches Restaurant is located in a very convenient and prime area of Dresden, making it an easy stop for both locals and tourists. The atmosphere inside is pleasant, calm lighting, nicely decorated, and generally inviting if you're looking for a comfortable dining experience.
When it comes to the food, it's a bit of a mixed bag. The vegetarian dishes are decent, and for those following Jain preferences, you might find a few options that come close, but it’s important to note that they do not offer fully onion-free and garlic-free meals. That can be a big drawback for people looking for strict Jain or sattvic food. The flavors are okay, but not particularly memorable. Sometimes I think I cook much better what they do.
One issue that stands out is the service. While some staff members are polite and professional, there have been occasions where the behavior felt a little dismissive or even borderline rude. If someone finds it unwelcoming or cold, it wouldn't be an exaggeration. That inconsistency in customer interaction is something that could be improved.
However, the most surprising and frankly frustrating part of the experience is their payment policy. They do not accept standard debit or credit cards, including Visa or Mastercard. They only accept German EC (Giro) cards or cash. For a restaurant in such a central, tourist-friendly location, this is a major inconvenience, especially for international visitors who are unlikely to carry a German bank card. If you're visiting from abroad, you’ll have to be prepared to pay with cash, which isn’t always practical or expected in a place like this.
In summary, while Ganesha has a good location and an enjoyable ambiance, the overall experience could be much better. The restaurant should really reconsider its payment options and ensure that the service is consistently professional. Until then, it might work for a quick vegetarian meal, but not without a few...

The tomato soup was great. For the Fisch dish there were two problems: the parsley was simply old. The worst was that a waiter told me it was Lachs (salmon), and in fact it was Seelachs! A completely different fish.
They didn't compensate that anyhow and I was really tired and had little time to wait for another dish or even to choose that.
In the end they told me they accept Essenkarte; I don't know what it is (my German is not so great), and I can't find it even in my dictionary. I proposed cash, then I found out that they accept debit cards. They read me a lecture that I should have said not credit card, but that debit card. In the end they didn't even say goodbye to me, but said Thank you. They also said that I can't buy salmon for 17 euro, but I know that fish well and I regularly buy it in a vegetarian restaurant in Aachen, I don't think they deceive me. I went out more stressed than I came! This is terrible.
They also serve very quick; there was little free place and I felt they wanted me to leave as soon as possible (though I may be wrong). There were many waiters around me; I can't say that it is always bad though.
From the good side, they give you some bread and sauces as Vorspeise (appetisers).
I came to them because of a good rating, but it is definitely overpriced for that quality.
I put 3 stars, because I think it can be worse in theory. The food was...
