Hotel Kipping — Hotel in Dresden

What's good here? |Clean, spacious rooms in house that is historic because it survived the 1945 bombing. Basic room rates very reasonable. Excellent location for train travellers close to main station and trams to both old town and Neustadt.|What's not so good? |What appear to be minimal staffing levels - often no-one on reception; and when we arrived 15 minutes after reception had closed - having 'phoned ahead to warn the hotel of our late arrival because of a train delay - the person who greeted us had difficulty with the hotel's computer. At first he insisted that we had only booked one room for our party of three; and only relented when I showed him the hotel's e-mail confirmation of a booking for two rooms. |Breakdown in hot water system - quickly fixed but no back-up. |Over-priced breakfast - from an adequate but pretty standard buffet - with separate...

Good location for comfortable small family hotel .I would guess that new owners still settling in as reservations we made for two rooms took a bit of finding and they only had one occupant listed for one of the rooms . However they were helpful and sorted it ok ,bit surprised to be charged for car parking as that hadn't before but at 16 euros for three nights was ok . Rooms can be bit of a lottery, one of ours was fairly small and cosy while the other was large with big bathroom for the same price . Breakfast was very good with plenty of variety and all good quality . I think the restaurant has closed but not sure if this is permanent. Bar is not well stocked either but maybe there is not much demand as we were only occupants shortly before it closes at 2200 .WiFi is free...

The proximity to the Dresden Hautbahnhof couldn't be better. While the building is one of the few that was not demolished during WWII, it is still very serviceable and comfortable! As others have said, the air conditioning was very much appreciated as the temperature outside was 89 degrees (F).||A couple of disappointing factors were:|* Condorion of the carpet in Room 23 was very poor: stained and very thin;|* No notification was given at the beginning or throughout our 6 night stay, that there would be no restaurant service in the evening. It would have been simple enough to tell is when we checked in but when we asked on the first night we were led to believe the Chef was simply off on Tuesday night, not all week.||Housekeeping each day was very good and breakfast...
